BF2 and Gamespy?

It's been a VERY long time since I've played BF2... so I forget, do I need to install Gamespy to play mp???
 
Maybe a stupid question, but is there a way to force it not to install directx 9 on my computer? I have a feeling doing that, then going back to 11 will cause some unwanted errors with other games.
 
I don't belive so. Canceling the installation of DirectX causes the whoel installation to fail.

I've installed before, I've never had problems with installation of Direct X 9, I believe if you already have an older version it will appear to install 9, but nothing will change.
