One of the Windows 8 guys could probably answer this better but one of the big things is staying current with the drivers as they seem to have a new one every day now. Otherwise, EA has their own issues that is impacting all servers on all platforms, and all you can do is tough it out.
 
That is a common crash message. I dont believe there is a fix for this right now. Only patches.

And it happens to windows 7 users as well
