I just don't get some of the reasoning behind common core mathmatics. Why the fuck can't kids actually solve problems instead of trying to draw graphs and charts and tables to solve the problem. I swear this shit has me hot. I try and help my kid with division, but he says he is not "supposed" to do, I guess they call it traditional division, to get the answers.

example:
2+2=4 right?
2(1)+2/1=4r2.4 is the correct answer.

Snake I hear you, but what I have found is that it is the school districts implementing Common Core to be the problem. I had the same issues with Area diagrams and the like then I went and read the guidelines, then looked at the district interpretation and I found the biggest issues not with the standards but how they were being used. They have to have a scope and sequence tied to what they are teaching; ask for it and try to match the instruction with the standards (not the district standards but the actual common core standards). I'd be interested if you find the same issue I did.

I mean I get what they are trying to do. But some of it just doesn't make sense, like the 8+5 thing. I know numbers are ever evolving, so these districts implementing it inccorrectly, how does that help benefit students/teachers/families alike?
 
at least you guys over there don't go to school for 12 years simply to learn how to pass standardized tests.
