I'm kind of surprised this hasn't been brought up yet but there has been a world class shitstorm tearing up Twitter for the past few weeks about this hashtag. It was coined by Adam Baldwin who's twitter account is one of my favorites. Anyhow, here is a great article explaining it in simple terms. Basically game journalists have been colluding with eachother and apparently been getting sexual favors from developers to write favorable reviews. Anyone who's played Battlefield will find this very easy to believe. Interesting article, fun Twitter war to watch.

I'm going to have to read that a few more times. It's fucking complicated.
 
On the surface it seems that way, but it's pretty simple. What's complicated is how many different scandals all dropped in this time frame and got rolled into the GamerGate hashtag. Probably most shocking to me is that 4chan was deleting threads and users over it. That's supposed to be the one place you can go and pretty much say anything.
 
The jist of is people are getting paid to do biased video game reviews, and it's pissing off a lot of folks. Mostly folks like IGN, Joystiq, Polygon, even RPS.
