Oh, and speaking of the word "fire"...my 8 yr old son, a 3rd grader, got a question wrong on a test the other day. It was a simple question: How many syllables are in the word "fire"?
Of course the Oklahoma born and bred teacher marked his answer "2" wrong. We non-native Oklahomans say "fye-uhr". She says "faahr".
@OklahomaSoldat I would have challenged the teacher. It depends on your dialect on how that is pronounced. Aka west coat its usually fi yer or over here in new england it's more of a fy uh.
