No Modding for Battlefield 3

Yeah, I just read that. So basically they're saying that we, the end users, are too stupid to be able to figure out how to manipulate the FrostBite 2 engine. I wonder how the air is up there on that high horse?

They just want to "try to" keep the tools and ultimately the files out of as many hands as possible to prevent hacking. Yeah how's that working out for them now? Whatever, they will never stop it.

Actually, I think it's quite the opposite, they want to keep the files out of competitors hands. I mean think about it. If a rival company reversed engineered their physics, they would lose the edge they have right now.

So they'll come out with a modding tool in year and a half.

The engine was not designed with modding in mind. It would probably take dealying the release a year to go back and change that decision. The decision was probably made before the game even hit the drawing board since its their stance.

Who is up for a massively delayed release? ....Thought so lol.

Map tools are one thing, that probably wouldnt be that hard. But thats only half of what modding tools allow.

I don't disagree with anything anyone else has said but if you read the article the reason they are using is that it would be far too difficult for mere mortals such as us to use it. Hence the high horse quote.

Right. It just came as no surprise to me its their stance for sometime now. I want to see their destruction maps for buildings. Messed with the concepts in DX10 thanks to nvidia releasing examples. If they made a map tool i dont think it would be that hard.

If someone wants to make a shitty map let em j/k

they obviously don't want to extend the longevity of their games. Its all about the money. BF3 for a year or so then probably something else. Its how the mainstream operates now ;) MODS = people don't want to get off the game. Bad for business.

Otherwise they'll have to come out with expansion packs. Just to make us pay $20 just get it.

The longevity street goes two ways.

People playing games they already own doesn't directly make the company any money. But people playing the games can make other people want to play the games and that makes them money.

Mods don't make the company any money directly but once again game sales do. Once a game gets old enough to survive on mod related sales only the profits from sales are pretty low. The game may have been paid for making the margin from sale high, but the prices are low making the overall profit low.

Hyped out new games at high prices make a shit ton of money good for business until you start pissing people off. Though if CoD is any indication you can piss everyone off and still make a fortune.

I know i said that i think :)

problem with expansion packs or paid DLC it splits the player base. Look at MOH, black ops i guess you can say BF2 with SF, and bc2 vietnam. If its free that's another thing.

FUCK YOU EA! Lets just hope that someone figures out how to mod the game without mod tools. :)
