I tried to get you guys to post this and other issues that in that other UPDATE thread that I started so we could get all of these issues in to one place... Perhaps I was a bit naive to think that was going to work. So, let's get started.
Yes, 1.4 should be in the update list if your original install version is
LESS than 1.40. And it sounds like you got that far just fine. It sounds more like a problem with what the game is interpreting as far as connections go rather than an install problem. But, just to be safe, let's cover some basics.
- When you did the clean install, did you delete the old files ( and the folder they were in ) from your machine before doing the fresh install?
- Did you delete the 2142 folder that likes to hide in the user applications folder?
- Did you just run the uninstall option and nothing else before doing the re-install?
- Did you just re-install over top of the existing game?
- While using the in game browser, in the advanced tab, do you have Same Version Only checked off?
- While using the in game browser, in the advanced tab, do you have Same Mod Only checked off?
I don't know what, if anything, might be affected by any of your answers to the above questions. But, it would certainly be a great place to begin figuring out what's going wrong and why you can't connect.
I know that in the 1.50 version of the game, if a server showed up as full or offline for me, etc., it would not let me connect no matter how hard I tried until I exited and re-started my game. Never could figure out why, and it didn't happen all that often. But the few times it has happened, I had to leave and start over. So, at least we know the game does have strange connection patterns sometimes.
