Alright we got a message from NFO stating our site is causing an unusual server load. We are in violation of their ToS by having a script that refreshes more often than 30 seconds. What script is violating this? The chat box. Fix it? No fucking thank you.

So assuming Soulzz and Fast approve we will move the site off the shared hosting onto a VPS configured very similarly to my testing, development and sales servers.

Benefits of this will include support for HTTP/2, TLS Encryption (SSL), and who the fuck knows at this point lol.

I have to be at the House of Representatives in DC at 730 in the morning which means I probably want to get this shit done by midnight. The site at some point will be stopped, backed up. The DNS migration may take time in some regions. All modifications to our htaccess file are going to be null and void and frankly our vBulletin redirects got fucked a long time ago so im not sure what else in there needs to get translated to NGINX.

Oh the other advantage would be IPv6 support but so long as we are using NFO's DNS which may be the case for awhile due to email, etc. We probably wont be able to support IPv6.

Well, if this helps to ID the rouge script, whenever I'm on the main page in firefox, the icon for the site in the 'tab' bar keeps circling indicating there's something trying to load. If I go to any other webpage on the site, the site icon shows up properly there.

Thats not it. Hell most of the time that was going on this year it was because the tracker banner for Squad comes from a shitty site lol. But there probably are other causes now.

As I said in the post the cause is the chatbox and im not setting it to 30 second refreshes for an active focused user wtf

I have aborted the move for the night. It's unrealistic that I will be able to finish successfully and get sleep at the same time.

We had several thousand extra files probably from someones failed attempt at updating things... Which did eat up some time.

However the transfer itself with all the attachments needs another hour. I can't even request the SSL cert until i change the DNS and have it resolve. On top of that debugging this much crap? Have to wait for tomorrow.
