Anyone change out their HDD on their PS3 before? Well I found out yesterday that its easy as hell and doesn't void any warranties. I am looking at getting this HDD:
Western Digital Scorpio Black WD3200BEKT 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Going to be installing the hell out of games onto it with my PSN Plus account (12+ free full games). Currently running a backup onto my portable HDD.

If you haven't upgraded your PS3s HDD and are interested, feel free to PM or IM me and I will help you out.

If you have upgraded your PS3s HDD, what size and brand did you go with? Any troublesome problems when upgrading to look out for?

I put a 250 in my old 40 GB after i got it. When you send in for warranty your usually told to remove the drive so it doesn't matter. To speed up the process they usually dont send your original unit back. Ive had mine fully stripped.

Dont forget 12.5 mm thick drives dont fit the drive cage. Smaller 9mm only.

Hmm, I can only seem to find 9.5mm HDDs. Is that what you meant by 9mm or is there an actual 9mm available?

I fucking knew i was gonna get that backwards. Been out of laptops a few months now. Usually the only 12mm drives are the largest available capacity.

Well, I finally got my new HDD in my PS3. Went with a WD Scorpio Blue 320GB 5,400RPM (7,200RPM was advised against by multiple tutorials). For a second I thought I broke my PS3 because it kept giving me errors about not updating. I had my portable HDD plugged in which I thought was going to update it, but it turns out one must use a flash drive with specific hierarchy and a playstation update file (available through playstation's site).

If you want to upgrade you PS3 and aren't sure how, send me a PM or comment on this post.. I will give you step by step instructions.
