Just a random video to test my capture settings and quality. Seems OK. Maybe I'll record a few more.

The game itself was kinda meh. We won but I failed to pay attention and they got a ninja phase gate around the 13:00 mark. Also didn't mist a few people due to being distracted...

Software used:
MSI Afterburner with Lagarith Codec for capping (lossless)
VirtualDub with x264vfw for basic cutting and youtube upload preparation (didn't quite want to upload the 41GB original lmao)
LameDropXPd for mp3 recode

I chose to record at 720p since 1080p chokes my HDD just a bit too much and the codec takes too much CPU for a hungry game like NS2. Even 720p gives me a nice FPS hit...

A few size statistics:
Original uncut video dump is 44,286,707,166 bytes (duration 28:20).
Recoded video is 663,088,556 bytes (duration 21:22) - 7 minutes were a recording of the previous round and were cut.
Recoding took 90 min with the "slowest" preset of x264vfw, 2-pass - normal speed first pass, not fast (I have an i7-920 @ 4.2GHz). I chose target bitrate of 4000kbps.

If someone's interested I'll let you know specifics about what I used and how to set it up. Every software I have used to record/recode this is free :-D .

P.S. My own voice is missing from the recording because it didn't mix it in. I think I can make it record it, but not that big of a deal anyway...

This looks great but I would suggest trying out the ingame recording mode as it has almost no FPS drop when used.

Actually yes, I did try the ingame recording mode but there's a huge slowdown of the actual gameplay (like the game moves in slo-mo...) because the "replay" is linked to your CPU speed.

It's quite unfortunate because the recording is really really nice. I'll do a few more tests tonight. Hang on for details too.
