Certain inventions and advancements I can understand... this, however...

"I hate having to make sure I'm plugging in my USB the right way. No matter how I hold it, it's always the wrong way!"

Since rotating your wrist is too much work, let's create something to rectify the problem! Necessity may be the mother of invention but laziness is the abusive husband that beats his wife.

While it's not really that large of an issue, it does make the connectors "nicer."

Then again, if they wanted to go all the way, they should've made it circular so it's just a straight shot without any rotation involved - like audio cables. That might cost too much to produce reliably though, with the multiple wires required to get the connector up to spec speed.

Yeah I'm looking forward to this. Not as a big a deal for desktops, though very handy, I'm looking forward to this for mobile devices. I especially like that it will also support enough power for (some/more) laptops now as well. While I think that wireless charging is the future (I use the USB plug on my Nexus 5 about once a month or less) it will still be important to have physical ports on devices for years to come.
