So a few people have asked what it is I am doing this summer in San Francisco so I decided to make it easy and just pop it up here. This summer I am an intern for the San Francisco Fleet Week Association.
I'm sure most of you know, but for the sake of those who do not: Fleet Week is week long event to celebrate our armed forces. This year we have 12 ships coming into port. 2 Coast Guard, 6 Navy, and 4 Canadian Navy. This Fleet Week in San Francisco is already been said to be even larger than that of Fleet Week New York.
However, Fleet Week also has some greater importance than just celebration. Starting last year the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response(HADR) program began being taught to the armed forces who came out to Fleet Week. Sailors and Marines along with local Police and Firefighters were taught things such as urban search and rescue along with other disaster preparedness. Sailors and Marines who were at last years event actually had the opportunity to use this training during the aftermath of the Japan earthquake last spring.

And if you want to feel super patriotic (American or Canadian) you can donate to help feed the 6000+ Sailors/Marines/Coasties/Canadians at our multiple bbq's and events:
