Hi, we first got Echo shaved about 3 years back because his fur would get very matted in the spring when he would shed his winter coat. There are many benefits, it's much less painful to have the matted fur removed, it's cleaner too because nothing sticks at the ol' back door, if you know what I mean.
There aren't furballs rolling through the house like tumbleweeds. It's cooler for them when the weather turns hot, healthier because they aren't swallowing all that dead hair and coughing it up, they feel better afterwards.
I can seen no reasons not to, it grows back in a few months and the new fur is nice and healthy. Echo is also much more affectionate, I think he just feels better after the cut. My only advice is to get a professional cat groomer to do it. Like the old saying goes, "Don't try this at home." If the groomer will let you, stay with your cat to soothe them and relax them during the cut so it's less stressful.
Here's the video I posted when he just had it done, for anyone that missed it. Maybe I'll break 90 views on Youtube.
