SimCity Offline Mode Update!!

I wanted to buy this game but once I heard you had to play online always and how bad some of the reviews were I passed. Has it gotten better? Is it fun? Do you build cities with others or are you just neighbors?
 
There are still some issues but sometimes those issues of user error. There are still program issues but it is much more playable than before. With the offline mode you can play COMPLETELY offline and turn the auto save off. So you can save as you want. Before if you messed up you were not able to revert back, but now you can build your city offline and revert back to your last save if you like.
 
Even when SimCity first came out the game had such a promise of untapped excellence that I tried to play it for the first month. I imagine with all the errors ironed out and if they ever made the City maps bigger this would be truly epic.
 
can you play together and build a city together or is it still you build your own but can have neighbors?
