YouTube co founder Jawed Karim ladies and gentlemen. Commenting for the first time in 8 years and speaking for every living breathing human being on youtube!

Ah haha. Now that is funny!

I am letting my YouTube channel die because Google now REQUIRES my phone number to login. I have 800+ subscribers and almost a million views on my videos, hate to see it go but I've had enough of the Google personal information black hole that keeps swallowing great websites and crushing privacy rights for its users.

I'd still like to see a screenshot of it forcing you Mac. I have an alternate account that does not have a number attached to it and it does not require such.

Google encourages using 2 step authentication meaning to login on an unknown PC they text you a code. But that is completely optional. Just dismiss the offer. Google has required for years a phone number if you want to upload videos over 15 min as a anti piracy measure. Can't think of any others. But I still have yet to hear this from anyone.

Your gonna hate Microsoft soon. Windows 8 and up requires a Microsoft account and they would like your phone number as well. But once again not mandatory for that sole purpose yet.

I'll see about getting you a screen, maybe I'm missing something you will pick up. We can Teamview it too which might be better.

Yeah I mean I hate to be the asshole I am but I'm just curious. My main account I put my number on like 3 years ago because of the upload limit. But I made a gmail and YouTube for tutorials like a year ago I signed in not 2 weeks ago and nothing like that.

They really are pushing gmail users for sure for the 2 factor authentication via phone though and I don't want it. I mean what a pain if I lose my phone, my service is cut off whatever.

Funny, no not really. It stops being funny after the 3rd time it asks you to:

- Use your real name
- Are you SURE you don't want to use your real name?
- Are you REALLY SURE you want to use your old name and not your real name?
- Are you REALLY SURE you want to not set up an account with your real name and instead use your old name, which is different from your real name?
- You can't be serious, so you must be really sure that you want to use two names instead of one - that is your real name.

Oh, and also I like how this "real name" bullshit is just a replacement for "set up a google+ account because we gun ovuteik facebook 2014 yo. Facebook dun guufd."

No, I don't want your shitty social network, no I don't want to use my real name.

If this continues, I think I'm just gonna remove myself from youtube eventually.

All those questions basically equal, were giving your channel a Google Plus page. I don't think its optional now that the comment system is live. But prior to yesterday all you had to do was click the X in the corner and it would say we will ask you later. I did it for a year.

Now the real problem is when a YouTube belongs to a website. You don't want the gmail users name on that particular channel. They don't make the transition straight forward. What you do is make a gplus page for a website on the same gmail account which can be confusing to do as well. But once the page exists it will be added to those 2 options it gives you. That's how I handled the tbgclan account. The main user technically doesn't require a gplus page in the end if you swing it right.

The problem is how they handle it. Could be so much easier even while being crammed down your throat.

Using the same "login/name/handle" for email, phone conversations, sex, office applications, airline tickets, video browsing, social networking, job hunting, house buying, car insurance shopping, banking, and porn, has benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I think the drawbacks are significant enough to the point of where I wished companies would stop doing this shit. EA/Microsoft/Google comes to mind... and that's just the beginning.

i even need a G+ account to read comment replies on my own videos
