The last few days have been tumultuous, as far as online gaming goes, for me. I won't delve too deeply into the matter, but I made a decision that thrust me into the forefront of the admins of this community, and found myself on the other side of the rules, which is never an acceptable or good way to make introductions.
I'm an avid gamer with a ridiculous sense of humor and have been so for almost twenty years, with three quarters of that time online, whether console or PC. In that time, I've played games ranging from MMOs like WoW, to FPS games like Battlefield, to real-time strategy games like Civilization and Real War. A LOT of games and gaming. A lot. A lot a lot.
I give this brief history because, with those games, I have encountered A LOT of gaming communities. I have run guilds and clans, led gaming platoons, and been "just a member", so I've seen both sides, the player and the administrative. It's important to have that clarity when understanding the work that goes into leading a community, and how difficult it can be to manage time to enjoy the games you love as well as lead the people who play them.
The meat of the subject starts here.
TBG is unique. There are A LOT of communities out there that have policies in place solely for the face value, that claim to be inclusive, or claim to stand against racism, or to be unbiased, and simply put, they fall short. I haven't experienced anything like that here, and in fact, have found the opposite to be true. That's where this community becomes unique, even special. It's a good thing, TBG, a Very Good Thing.
From clan members to admins, to Head Admins and Founders, TBG has shown me not one member, NOT. ONE. who attempts to subvert or "do as I say, not as I do" the rules here, or the culture that enforcement of those rules brings about, and I think that speaks volumes about what you've built and maintained here. Leadership *ACTUALLY PERFORMED DUE DILIGENCE*, taking the time to research chat logs, to gain perspective of context and intent, and then made informed decisions.
TBG, that's a Very Good Thing. You all have something really great here, and it's even more unique in that, as a friend on twitter pointed out, your community is focused largely on first person shooters. To find a community that runs zero-tolerance racism policy servers in the FPS world is unheard of. You practically stand alone in this regard, and for that, I thank you and tip my hat.
Keep dumpin mags & droppin bodies, TBG. I'll keep running them over to keep your six clear.
