The latest amazing robot from Boston Dynamics ? the defense contractor behind the BigDog, Cheetah and PETMAN robots ? is a lightweight ?Sand Flea? ?bot capable of jumping 30 feet in the air.The 11-pound, four-wheeled robot drives like a regular RC car until it deploys a pair of legs and springs skyward, using an onboard stabilization system to stick the landing. The Sand Flea is being developed in conjunction with the U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force, and its built-in video uplink and jumping capabilities make it a good candidate for military surveillance tasks.
