You can't make this shit up, the UN actually lowered it's flag at all of it's offices worldwide in honor of Kim Jong Il, and because that wasn't a sufficiently moronic statement to make they also observed a minute of silence at their 66th session. It's good to know the UN has it's priorities straight. This did include their headquarters in New York City.

It covers a few of their priorities. Its just a good show for North Korea and NK probably wont actually care. But while we celebrate thank god he is dead, or not because of the new uncertainty. The UN is trying to gain relations in the interests of "Peace". I am sure the guy lowering the flag at any given building was like "Why am i doing this...". But the people making the decision know exactly what they were doing and it wasn't to Honor a damn soul.

Attempts at diplomacy have been very fruitful thus far. I'm sure the hundreds of thousands of people who have died because of his policies or direct orders appreciate the attempt to kindle relations with his progeny. Either way it's a perfect example of the ineffectual nature of the UN. The first thing the new regime did was test fire a missile off their east coast, maybe the UN thought that was North Korean for "hey lets be friends".

Someone tell them they have that all wrong, thats fricken Klingon for lets be friends.

Wouldn't really call it a new regime at least yet. With il gone some may be free to influence policy in ways that where not free to but most everything is still there. Pretty bad time to be test firing missiles but that test could have already been planned. The interests of the world and the interests of the people of NK cant always be met in a single action. In fact the interests of NK's people can barely be helped at all with the Kim family in power.
