20 years too late the Army is finally pulling the plug on the Beretta 92F. They just signed a contract in 2012 to provide 100,000 M9's for $64million, this is what people are talking about when they say there is waste and mismanagement in the government. This weapon should have never been an official military sidearm as it essentially shoots nerf bullets and is about as reliable as a Chevy ignition system. They are purportedly looking for a weapon with "better reliability" which is a pretty fucking low bar to clear and "more stopping power" which is also going to be a pretty low bar to clear. The weapon the M9 replaced qualifies in both those categories, the 1911A1 was a masterpiece that is still widely used today.

Yeah I was just reading this. One of the worst articles I've read on Fox in a long time.
Examples:
"They also are considering new ammunition, which has sparked considerable debate among military and civilian weapons experts, too. " Too is unnecessary.

"...and its open-slide bullet chamber allows in too much dirty, which results in jamming."

"The argument against the .40 caliber round is that its heavier weight and stronger recoil causes excessive wear on a 9 mm pistol." wtf?

Hated when we went to that piece of crap in the Corps. Our CO got us hollow points when we went to Panama so we could alternate them with full jacket rounds. Felt we needed more stopping power.

Internet articles are usually loaded with bad grammar, bad spelling and bad information. That's the price we pay so they can get their story out 37 milliseconds faster than the other website that is going to copy/paste it.
