I used to do it when I was younger, and honestly my impression is that the effect is really euphoric and profound, but I wouldn't call it "life's HD button." That's a bit naive. It does impair you in a lot of ways, but it makes your thoughts go in really different ways from where they usually go and everything seems very interesting and fascinating.
In a lot of ways, it's like being a child again, sort of.
Before you think I'm advocating weed use, I should say that I personally think doing it in moderation is okay, but doing it every day or all the time really makes you feel lethargic/passive/dumb. I've noticed a definite effect on short-term memory too. For me, that effect luckily reversed pretty quickly when I stopped. There was a period in my life when I smoked almost every day for a bit, and I'm not really looking forward to going back there.
Unfortunately, due to the stigma that is in the US - not only the risk of being arrested and fined/jailed, but also the risk of losing your job because of the fucking drug tests - I wouldn't touch it unless the stigma somehow disappears, through legalization or what-not. I don't think it'll be in the next 5-10 years, maybe in 20 or so... but who knows. Lacing and quality is also something I am greatly concerned about. Some of the shit that some people lace with is potentially "harmless" (common tobacco), but I've heard of weed being laced with so many other bad things - to reduce cost or to get you addicted. You never know what shit you're getting. Legalization would take care of that too...
I still get a slight craving sometimes, after over a decade, but it's not gonna happen soon probably.
P.S. Of course, with weed, your mileage may vary:
I had a friend who smoked more or less every day while in university and working full-time, including right before his exams, did really well on exams and in his job, and now works for Microsoft in Denmark. I don't think he smokes anymore though, he kinda stopped in his early 20's.
I had another friend, a girl, who was kind of just really weird when she was young, like socially awkward and stuff, didn't talk much, but she was OK. I saw her a few years ago and she was like 2x weird, like sometimes it was even difficult to keep the conversation going. I'm not sure how she functions anymore. I heard from my other friends she was diagnosed with schizophrenia later. I sometimes wonder if weed accelerated that or brought it on in some way (I've read it may amplify schizophrenic tendencies if you already have them), and if she'd be fine if she hadn't smoked. I don't know, but I kinda feel bad about it. Her choice though.
