I generally think it's bullshit, even though every single person in this city over 12 seems to smoke it.

What's your opinion on it?

I just noticed a girl posting a facebook status:
"Smoking weed is like hitting lifes HD button."
I was like oh my fucking god are you seriously that stupid?
Responded with :
"^BS, hitting life's HD button is flying a jet airplane at mach 2 10 feet over the pacific ocean during rough seas."

I think i would be the "worst" dad ever for a teenager and the best dad ever once he or she grows up, lol.

Anyways yeah, is the problem that bad in the states, up north in winter wonderland and UK so big as well?

I've actually never smoked it .. and yet .. all my friends do it.

I know a few people who were discharged from the military after being drug tested and caught with it in their system, I know others, like my sister, who was denied a great nursing job because she too failed her drug test.

I don't care to risk something so important like a career over it. I think there's also a difference between doing it just about every day, and doing it every once in a great while. The people I know who do it everyday are usually the ones who are still unemployed and never went to College. Whatever makes you happy I guess though.

yeah man, same here with the friends, they say its all great and shit but imo it just creates this "dream world" for them for which they get a huge craving

Spain has the right idea. Now if the USA can wake up.

Weed is one of those drugs that come in many flavors and levels of THC. Some say it's similar to getting drunk, but I would beg to differ.. I have seen weed laced with any number of other drugs and chemicals to produce various different highs. The absolute worst one I've ever tried was called "Boot" in NY City. It is laced with formaldehyde, which is probably extremely dangerous and literally caused me to stare at a TV for hours without moving. I imagine I would have stared at anything that caught my eye, but the TV was the first thing that did. For a much better high in my case lacing with cocaine was another type of high.

There are some legitimate medical uses for it, although I think there are better alternatives that have been produced specifically for what ails you. I am drug an alcohol free for a number of years now and can't say I miss any of it. I still get absolutely shitfaced once a year in June on a fishing trip with some buddies, but that is the extent of my partying now a days. In my years of drug and alcohol use/abuse I have seen either one (drugs or alcohol) consume the people and their lives to destruction while it doesn't affect others at all. I know people that smoke weed everyday and hold jobs you would think they shouldn't. I've seen coke heads snort large amounts of the stuff and not affect their daily lives one bit while others are hooked or move on to other more intense drugs (Heroin, Meth).

The bottom line is this; some people can handle it while others cannot and those that can't usually need to progress to an ever higher and higher form of high to get that same type of feeling they crave. For the record every single person I know that progressed to Heroin or Meth is dead. There simply is no coming back from those drugs and I don't wish that type of death on anyone. In my personal opinion, not that it matters, but its to stay away from all of it. All of of them affect your judgement in one way or another and usually for the worse. That's my .02.

I just get tired of friends who find ways of bringing up the subject of weed or the legalization of it into every single conversation. As if it consumes every waking thought they have.

me: "Mornin!"
Them: " It would be a better morning if I was high"

Me: " Did you hear about that shooting in Newton?"
Them " If weed were legal, we wouldnt have this problem. Everyone would be happy"

Thats what makes me have a disdain for it that much more. It's all they talk about and they really have no desire to do anything other than get high.

If alcohol is legal, MJ should be too. How many people are rotting in prison over this bullshit. I think a lot of people do it because its illegal and taboo. It should be legalized and taxed.

I used to do it when I was younger, and honestly my impression is that the effect is really euphoric and profound, but I wouldn't call it "life's HD button." That's a bit naive. It does impair you in a lot of ways, but it makes your thoughts go in really different ways from where they usually go and everything seems very interesting and fascinating.

In a lot of ways, it's like being a child again, sort of.

Before you think I'm advocating weed use, I should say that I personally think doing it in moderation is okay, but doing it every day or all the time really makes you feel lethargic/passive/dumb. I've noticed a definite effect on short-term memory too. For me, that effect luckily reversed pretty quickly when I stopped. There was a period in my life when I smoked almost every day for a bit, and I'm not really looking forward to going back there.

Unfortunately, due to the stigma that is in the US - not only the risk of being arrested and fined/jailed, but also the risk of losing your job because of the fucking drug tests - I wouldn't touch it unless the stigma somehow disappears, through legalization or what-not. I don't think it'll be in the next 5-10 years, maybe in 20 or so... but who knows. Lacing and quality is also something I am greatly concerned about. Some of the shit that some people lace with is potentially "harmless" (common tobacco), but I've heard of weed being laced with so many other bad things - to reduce cost or to get you addicted. You never know what shit you're getting. Legalization would take care of that too...

I still get a slight craving sometimes, after over a decade, but it's not gonna happen soon probably.

P.S. Of course, with weed, your mileage may vary:

I had a friend who smoked more or less every day while in university and working full-time, including right before his exams, did really well on exams and in his job, and now works for Microsoft in Denmark. I don't think he smokes anymore though, he kinda stopped in his early 20's.

I had another friend, a girl, who was kind of just really weird when she was young, like socially awkward and stuff, didn't talk much, but she was OK. I saw her a few years ago and she was like 2x weird, like sometimes it was even difficult to keep the conversation going. I'm not sure how she functions anymore. I heard from my other friends she was diagnosed with schizophrenia later. I sometimes wonder if weed accelerated that or brought it on in some way (I've read it may amplify schizophrenic tendencies if you already have them), and if she'd be fine if she hadn't smoked. I don't know, but I kinda feel bad about it. Her choice though.

I've partaken of it before, but not on a regular basis. Also about 90% of my friends have tried it. I don't think it's that big of a deal, and I can't stand the idiot stoners who play online and spend the whole time thinking they are hot shit for playing video games while stoned.
