How come companies like EA, Activision & others never release demos of the full game anymore? The last totally free demo I can recall was when EA released the demo for BF2 but since then all I ever see is these beta key programs and they always come with strings attached and end up costing you money because you have to sign up for something like a premium File Planet account before you can even register to be eligible for a beta key.
I know they are trying to squeeze every dime they can out of the consumers when a new game title is released but it doesn't make any sense to me why they don't release a fee demo version a couple of weeks prior to the release of the full came.
I guess it just irritates me because I was looking over my gaming library this afternoon and counted several hundred dollars worth of game titles that I only played once or twice before uninstalling because they sucked in my opinion.
Prior to and up to the release of BF2 most game developers always released a free demo of some sort that folks could download and try out before investing anywhere from $50 to $70 dollars on a game that they ended up hating.
I would like to see the industry return to the practice of releasing demos prior to the full versions but I am pretty sure that's a pipe dream of days long gone by.
