They are giving the full BF1942 game away for free! I remember the demo...These were some glory days of gaming. If no one has played this game I highly recommend you check it out.

Origin

Sweet. Maybe now a few of the kiddies on the BL forums will understand the first game in the series.

I find it funny that a lot of the kids that we encounter in the gaming world today were not even born yet when the demo on the game itself came out. LOL

yay, i tried to install it a few days back but one of the cd-s was scratched (OMFG - 4 DISCS FOR A GAME!!!)

Lets just say that gaming years count double so we don't feel so old in real life. :)

Don't forget to try the DC mod for 1942 guys. In my personal opinion that is the best.

Vietnam-redux: OP Irving is the SHIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dude....we should all get 1942 and like once or twice a week have some Battle of Britain or Omaha Beach games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you guys think??

P.S. im Downloading them shits RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

Games are only fun if you play with the people who make it fun...So I think going old school wouldn't hurt a bit.

Does anyone know how to play the game at 1080p? I went into the settings and changed the resolution manually and save the video.con as read-only file but it doesn't work for me.

It does not support those, but you can set your own custom resolution in the settings file. Don't remember where that is right now. Found it

Widescreen Support

WARNING: FOLLOWING METHOD DOES NOT WORK WITH ALL VERSIONS OF THE GAME (especially for 1920x1200 custom resolution).
Battlefield 1942 does not have native widescreen support.

To use custom resolutions, navigate to Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom and open the file Video.con in Wordpad.

The following line is the one we are interested in:
game.setGameDisplayMode 1440 900 32 60

The first number is the width and the second is the height. Change these values to the resolution you want. In this example, the game would run at a resolution of 1440x900.

You can also adjust the game's field of view (FOV) so your screen takes advantage of the extra width. To adjust your FOV, navigate to Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings and open up VideoDefault.con.

Find this line:
renderer.fieldOfView 1

This setting defaults to 1 for a standard 4:3 monitor. Change to suit your aspect ratio:
1.33333 for 16:9
1.25 for 15:9
1.2 for 16:10
To finish, make both files read only to prevent the game undoing your changes.

I installed a server if anyone wants to give it a shot. But i can't even see a single server running. Servers just won't pop up for me. Also says i need to update the game, won't allow me to enable PB. I DLed this on origin so not sure what the hell am I supposed to do.

Thank you Bob, I'll try once again. If you make it work please let me now. It should support 1080p using custom resolution like other past games.

I still have the original with all the add-ons (yes, I loved it as much as Bob). I will have to reinstall and run all the patches, god knows there were tons on those. Which version do we have to run?

PB does not work with this version, see this for more. There are plenty of servers, maybe try Origin repair?

Anyway, you guys should also try the Desert Combat mod. Elxx from DICE made a server called "Metro 24/7" (dude has a sense of humor), it was full last night. For those that do not know, Desert Combat started bf2. This is how you install it, and find servers:

Go to:Battlefield 1942 | Files | Desert Combat | Total Conversions | Modifications | Game Front

Download both Desert Combat Mod v0.7 Full And Desert Combat Final Client

You must run v.07 Full first. When installing change the directory from the default one to C:.../Program Files/Origin Games/Battlefield1942
and then install. Do the same for DC_Final (Sam Folder)

Now launch 1942 through Origin. Then go into Custom Games, you should see two new games 0.7 and Final (0.8) click on (0.8).This will load up Desert Combat.

Now go to Multiplay then Internet. On the right hand side you will see an arrow under custom game, click 0.8 final and hit update, it will load all the servers for Desert Combat only, if you do not click 0.8 in the filter it will show all game servers for Vanilla 1942 and Desert Combat.

Hope this helps, and have fun!
