that would suck if you looked in the sky and saw that huge missile flying towards you.

yeah i hadnt seen the wreckers, those look pretty cool, either one i rode in i want the crow system, those are pretty badass...

ok so there we were rolling into a base in Kabul, and we look at a humvee parked and its a spec for vehicle, this had a vulcan mounted as its main weapon with a mk19 as a secondary and a 240 mounted to the back end for another gunner, it was sick looking..

I guess 1st class was sold out.

Aircrew recovery, that sucks. We do that too, there is an emergency harness built into the survival vest with a clip designed for that situation, if you have to do that its usually a shitty day

The old rumors about the gun on the front of the A10 able to stall the plane are pretty much BS. If you take the plane A-10 in combat config at 40,000 pounds moving at 350 knots, there is not a lot a 3/4 lb bullet moving at 2000 feet per second is going to do. It might slow the plane down a couple knots but stall it NO.

You're right. Stall the Plane, no.. flame-out the engines, absolutely.

The excess gases produced by firing the main gun at long intervals, can in fact cause the gas combustion chamber of the two engines to flame out. If my memory serves me correctly, when the airforce was conducting tests on a new type of ammunition for the aircraft, the smoke and gases from the exiting rounds caused a dual engine failure. The pilot could not restart the either engines and had to eject.

from wiki:

"The A-10 engines were initially susceptible to flameout when subjected to gases generated in the firing of the gun. When the GAU-8 is being fired, the smoke from the gun can make the engines stop, and this did occur during initial flight testing.[2] Gun exhaust is essentially oxygen-free, and is certainly capable of causing flame-outs of gas turbines. The A-10 engines now have a self sustaining combustion section. When the gun is fired the igniters come on to reduce the possibility of a flame-out.[13] -Jenkins, Dennis R (1998). Fairchild-Republic A/OA-10 Warthog. North Branch, Minnesota: Specialty Press. ISBN 1-58007-013-2."

1 Case in initial testing and it was corrected. The A-10 engines now have a self sustaining combustion section to prevent this. Not what I was talking about though. You out of all people know it is a common military myth that the gun is powerful enough to make it stall which is total bullshit. It is just basic physics!
Obv's McGovv's dude. I was never saying that it could stall the plane, that's like saying that Hellfire missiles are filled with candy and bubble gum, and .50 cals shoot marshmallows: aka ridiculous. I have heard some crazy shit come out of the mouths of Joe tho....nothing takes the cake like "You Chinooks can sling load tanks right?" ......./facepalm.
