Sup everyone. So I'm a noob to this. I talked to @JoeLeb a bit in Ts3 about Ocing. Figured I would see what kind of info everyone else can give me.

So It had a default OC to 4.5 @ 1.3V with temps around 60c with a H100i in push/pull. I set it to 4.7 @ 1.25V and I'm sitting @ 49-52c. This is while running BF4 the before/after. My idle temps are about 30-35c. I changed the OC settings via AI Suite 3. Is there anything specific I need to check from the Default OC to make sure it's not turning something to high? Like I'm not sure what my Vram temps should be, but they are at 58c. I also have the original RAM from my prebuilt. From what I understand higher volts = higher temps. So the trick is to get a higher OC frequency with the lowest volts you can get with temps in an acceptable range? Also is there any safe free CPU stress testing software someone can recommend so I know everything is stable for sure. Thanks!
 
I am also aware of sites like Tomshardware.com and Overclock.net. Just most of those threads have so many bullshit posts/replies It's hard to tell what the truth is.

PRIME95 is free and your friend. Also Intel burn test. Keep your temps below 70 if possible. Though I think these chips can safely handle much higher. Prime 95 for an hour is a decent stability test.
 
That's a good OC at that voltage.
To turn off the Asus multicore enhancement in the bios. Basically, this makes the cpu run at max stepping speed all the time and is redundant with your OC. Also, it'd be a more stable OC if you just changed the multiplier setting in the bios to 47 and changed the cpu voltage manually to 1.25 in the bios as well.

To turn off multicore enhancement go here in your bios :

Intel burn test is the best pure CPU stress test for OC that I've ever found. and it's a relatively short test in comparison with Prime 95. If you're going to be running the CPU at that speed you really might want to seriously consider a custom water loop. You can start with a kit or part it out yourself, but XSPC has great kits for beginners with everything in there you need to get going.

I have the exact same set up. same cpu, same board and same cooler.
Prime 95 runs at about 55 C for say 5 minutes then all of a sudden it shifts gears and my temp shoots up to 90 C.
This is all at 4.7 Ghz and 1.25 volts. Kinda pisses me off that the H100 can't do better temps.
 
Yea, I ran a stress test and was fine, but I had 1 spike about 2 mins into it at about 72c. The rest stayed around 62-65c. at 5mins it stopped saying I had hit like 85c. I was using that OCCT software running all cores with a max load. I have almost all my case fans running on my cases controller. I didn't have them maxed during the test though. It's no biggie to me. I don't do anything but play BF games anymore. Just want to research and learn what I'm doing for future reasons if I need to get more out of the CPU. Nothing I do now even touches the potential of this chip.

Edit- I also have my h100i in a push/pull pulling air from the top of the case. Not sure if that's good or bad since it's tossing heat right back onto everything. Figured with all the airflow I have it shouldn't matter. I'll probably flip them around unless anyone has any thoughts on it.
 
Since I'm done going broke building this thing I probably will consider a custom water cooling system down the road as I'm sure that will handle a lot better. Just kind of assumed the H100i could keep everything cool with such a minimal OC. Then again It could also be related to user error on my part or the software itself as I've read some have huge differences in temps while testing. Thanks for the info everyone. Continue dumping it on this thread as I will read it all and continue to educate myself.

I've watched this vid along time ago, but I think this helps clarify somethings and probably explained the spike in temps during testing.

Edit @death-head-666 You might want to check out this video if you haven't already. @ around 12:00 mins he touches on The CPU voltage settings. I think this explains the issues I had while running a stress test and having everything fine till 5mins in and temps spiking so high. Not sure if that could have been your issue.

dont need to flip all of them, just check the ones on your rad. My rad puts off MASSIVE fucking heat when gaming and I have my push fans cranked up. Just check the airflow of other fans. bottom fans should flow up. front fans should flow in(towards back) ; rear fans should blow out(towards ass of case), rad fans should be blowing same direction...Out of the case
 
Well that's what I was talking about. I have 4 sp120s on my rad doing push/pull. I had all 4 setup so it was pulling in air from outside the top of the case. Figured this would be ok since I heard as long as I had good ariflow it would have lower temps. Obviously this was wrong info. lol. In these photos you can see how I have them now minus the one fan I didn't change yet in the photo just to show how I had them before.



Again the one on the left near the back of the case I didn't change in the photo just to show how I had them all prior. They are all set to pull air from inside the case and exhaust it out the top.

yea, you should see difference in temps on CPU just by cranking RAD fans if they are all getting that heat off the rad OUT of the case

I like Intel Burn Test too but I wouldn't trust it as a whole. I can run 4.6 all day on Intel burn test and I can fail an hour into prime. Battlefield puts be at about the same failure so I know it wasn't stable. It hits hard and fast but if you really want to be sure I would still prime it on a day you don't need the pc or something. Hard to find that much time :p
