So I want to... need to... recover the admin password for a windows 7 professional PC. When my little brother moved out to Singapore a few years ago, he left it here (much better than putting it in a storage unit). After he moved back, he didn't need it right away because he built another PC for use while out there, and he had his NAS with him so he didn't need the storage on the PC anymore. It still has tons and tons of music and movies on it, so I don't want to wipe a drive and start over... that and he doesn't have the boot disc anymore (lost). All this said, he hasn't a clue what he set the password to. I'd love to use it, even set up a personal Minecraft server or something at some point, but being locked out kinda bites.

There are a number of ways to go about this, via google, but I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions how best to go about it, or even a recommendation of what software to download.

Look for hirems boot CD and burn it to a disk there are several password retrieval tools on it

even with a password you can access the data (most of the time) if you pull the drive.

Torrent a copy of MS Dart. It's a little easier to use then anything else. Boot to the CD choose locksmith then select the account you want to reset. Type in a new password, reboot, and voila.

If he used bitlocker and you don't have the 48 character recovery key you're screwed.
