It's been 5 years. My PC has served me well. But it is time to move on...

:(

So I have chosen these parts to make my next beast. Opinions?

Looks good to me! There are a few of us with the same CPU and MoBo combo!
I really can't complain. The 4970k runs an 4.7 Ghz overclock all day long.
I'm not sure I'd go for the 1TB ssd though. A bit expensive for storage.
I ended up with a 480GB SSD for operating system and a 1TB WD Black for storage.

What GPU are you using? That's a hell of a PSU if you're running 2/3 way SLI/Crossfire. Also that 1tb ssd is a lot of money being wasted on storage. Why do you need 32gb of RAM? Everything looks good, just seems like a lot of waste.

Agree with the above, 32GB seems excessive, I would swap the 1tb SSD for a WD black and wouldn't bother with that overpowered PSU unless it was really required depending on GPU or GPU's your going for. Other than that good choice on CPU and cooler, board and case.

RAM is the easiest thing to add down the line. Why not go for 16GB now, and get the other 16 in a couple of years when (a) you really need it and (b) it's cheaper.

Also, 2 SSDs is a weee bit demented. You'd be better served by a single 500GB SSD and a big mechanical, or maybe just the 1TB drive.

The reason I'm doing 32gb of RAM is that I actually have 18gb on my old build. Even that one I max out consistently. Plus, I'd like to start running multiple VMs all the time.

The PSU, yeah it's a bit excessive. I want to do SLI Nvidia cards in the near future, but I think I'm going to drop it down to an 800 watt.

With the SSDs, I just prefer having two separate ones for my OS and programs.

And for a video card, I've got an HD 7970 Ghz edition that I'll use until I get the cash for some Nvidia cards.

off topic but @BOT#00001 I also run the hd 7970 have you noticed any memory leaks. here in the last week after about an hour of play my frames drop to like 20-30 and I can barely play

SSDs for the win. 1TB is pretty epic for SSD (the price), but depending on what kind of software you gunna run on it (video editing etc..) , up to you. if you are storing media, I would get an HDD.

I am running 2 256g 840s and 1 1tb WD black.

Not sure why you want a second ssd just for an OS? Most people run a ssd and HDD because they can't afford a large enough ssd. I just don't understand your theory behind this.

I was broke and got 1 128g ssd for OS then got a second 128g ssd for games that's just cause of money issues now have a 1tb storage and for other games. the 250g ssd will be plenty for ur os and major games. save some money or put it else where

I haven't noticed any, really. But then again, I had lots of RAM issues causing slow downs anyways. I doubt I would have noticed it.

At some point, I'll pick up a 3 or 4 gig mechanical storage drive.

I just like keeping my OS on an entirely separate drive. Something goes wrong with it and I can wipe the entire thing without worry.

Already got the drives. I'm ok with it. The price per gig was pretty damned good

I like the idea of the 1 TB SSD. I have that exact same SSD myself, 1 TB as well, and with game installations coming out at an average of 25-40GB (Max Payne 3 is a base 35GB install) I would go for it. I'm not sure on the purpose of the secondary SSD, for housing the installation of the OS. A concept that might appeal to you, or anyone that does consistent uninstallation/reinstallation of their OS, is to install it, udpate it, update drivers, and image the drive to either an external or another machine.

I always say that I'm going to image it, and I never do. I WILL do it this time though. Just to get out of that bad habit.
