Well, I confess I'm not the best at CPUs, but do you really need six cores? From what I've read the quads usually outperform.

The 6300 is a solid choice if you go the AMD route. The 8 Core CPU's are overkill, and don't benefit you in gaming. I'm actually building a BF4 machine for a buddy of mine and the build is with the 6300. You should be able to get a decent overclock also, and the AMD's are great at staying cool.

Are you going to stay with your current mobo Fast? If it were me as of right now I would update mobo, cpu, and video (if necessary). In a few months that is exactly what I'm going to upgrade.

It should be compatible since my current one supports am3 socket. But I will probably upgrade it

I will probably go with gigabyte or MSI...asus is great as well. I know some dont like msi motherboard but I never had any complications.

Its not even a 6 core CPU. Its a 3 core 6 thread CPU. Its a bit like asking whether an i7 is worth it over an i5. The extra threading comes in handy for video encoding and shit. Not so much for gaming but when your bottlenecked later down the road the extra half cores do come in handy.

But its not a 6 core like the Phenomx6 which in its time was a debate.

Those prices are really cheap! How do they compare to the Intel Core i5-2500K Quad-Core Processor 3.3 GHz 6 MB Cache LGA 1155 . As far as performance.

I'd probably take the 2500k for raw per core performance in gaming. FX 6300 would be runner up and a good all rounder for shit beyond gaming and especially on a budget.
