I put this in the open for now because why not. Would their be any interest and or objections to changing from the shitty but faithful hosting we are on now to something that would offer a few things.
HTTP/2 - No real down sides. Users with compatible browsers will enjoy speed benefits. Servers resource usage should be lower. Technically NGINX's support for this is in beta but so far it's been stable.
IPv6 - Unless you are in Singapore its not all that necessary yet. But it is future proof. It may actually allow us to identify cell phone users better. Phones forced to use IPv4 are sharing addresses like crazy. Given the amount of IPv6 addresses they may not cycle as much. Both my home and cell ISP support IPv6.
HTTPS - Is your name Edward Snowden. Are you paranoid? TLS encryption (aka SSL) would offer not transmitting login and other information over plain text. Rather be encrypted and perhaps the NSA somehow won't see the shit you're posting in public. Google, Facebook, etc are all default or HTTPS only now. Certificates are free via LetsEncrypt.
The only "problem" is not all out external services are available encrypted. Not sure if gametracker offers https but for example an embedded twitch stream would cause this:
Might also cut off idiots on Windows XP. XP's support for modern certificates is lacking. The same people are going to be incapable of getting one facebook this year as well. So... not sure its a real problem.
If we have any RHEL/Fedora/CentOS sysadmins on staff that want to check my work it would be appreciated. I have spent the last week gutting and rebuilding my personal server so I can get back to development. At any point going forward it would be an opportunity for TBG's site to run on a more modern setup.
We ran our own VPS for 6 month's before, 6 month's in we sorta hit a disaster. It looked like an attack or a server issue. Pretty sure in the end Xenforo's deffer system was slamming the server.
