Was playing a round of Locker and smelled smoke... flipped the power as fast as i could... when i opened up the case i had a series of wires that were all melted running from the psu to my 2nd 5970. I have a backup psu but i am nervous now.

Anyone know if Corsair has a good return policy or RMA? the PSU is only 6 months old

I had this happen with an IDE cable once, new cable and all was right in the world. Always nerve racking to smell then see smoke pouring out of your rig.

I would assume so. Have you checked their website?

That's bad news, but at least you were home and your house didn't catch fire.

I'd be worried that the video card fried and drew so much amperage that it melted the wires from the PSU. Keep a close eye on that video card and make sure everything is seated properly and nothing is shorting it out like a piece of Christmas tinsel that got sucked into the case over the holidays.

Corsair as the best RMA service available out there Ive used. Plus its in the US so no shipping overseas.

Corsair HX 1050 is the one that burnt out ... my psu i dropped in today was my old corsair tx 850

That is exactly what happened to me same models and all. I just couldn't be asked to ship the HX1050 back, it is sat in the box still. Only difference being it crapped after 3 years or so.

On the bright side, looks like ill be able to RMA the psu. On the bad side the psu fried one of my 5970's when the wires melted. My headset also has no sound now so it will be a while before i can hop back on ts.

That sucks. You need to talk to them about the 5970 as well. I don't know on the PSU side but Corsair is very good about replacing hardware that their products have damaged. The unfortunate side to that is whatever they give you as compensation won't be a 5970 and in that regard would be useless to pair with the one you still have.
