just fyi... the asbestose could have been removed by a team during the night (since they dont usually start work till after 5pm) and you may have just seen the dust created from removing a plaster ceiling(gunite ceilings also create a ton of thick dust when removed).
however, the "itchy" part of ur description worries me... i've walked through the said dust cloud with my mask off before, but i dont recall anything about it being "itchy"
i would especially worry if you are a smoker... supposedly, asbestos likes to stick to the tar in the lungs of a smoker. otherwise there is a good chance of exhaling the asbestos.
