What is the lowest you can get your 5k series card down to (on air).
I have the XFX 5850 XXX edition (755/1125mhz) factory over clocked and at 100% fan speed I could only idle it down to 46/47c.

Anyone of you have better results and what cards are you using?

I have XFX HD5770 crossfired together (850/1200MHZ) and they are at 45c.

I had the stock XFX 5870 and at 30% fan speed it ran 36C idle and 56C load. I replaced the stock fan with an aftermarket one, I forget which one, but now it idles at 29 and under load is 45. Plus, I don't ever hear the GPU fan now. Even at 30% with the stock fan it drove me nuts listening to that drone on like a small Hoover.

Edit: it's running at 900/1300 stock was 850/1200

Seriously why even bother overclocking a VC? Is it really worth the permanent damage for like 7 FPS when you're already running a higher end card?

I would NOT recommend overclocking your video card. Life span cut short.

My 5770 is running at 50% fan speed and idling at 38 celsius.

For the same reason I OC my cpu-because I can.

I mean I get it but there is a much larger Return on OC'ing your processor than your VC. You're talking like 5 to 7 FPS versus 20 or more especially in SLI or xFire. Idk man I think it's too risky since VCs get finicky with Heat

Nah, I don't do it for one or two extra FPS, just to see what it will run at and still be stable. In that respect it's much like the cpu OC. I just like to tinker and see how much more these components can be pushed beyond the standard specs. If the ATI CC didn't block me from going higher than 900/1300, I'd push it up further to see where it would go. Besides, I noticed a 1C temp difference in stock speeds and a slight OC so why not.

What is your room temperature? Because that is a lot lower than I can get without after market.

who me? Mine is 24 Celsius (hot and sticky) currently, no idea whats in Fahrenheit though.

33 IDLE @ 21% fan speed. Under load 53 but didn't look at the fan speed but it had kicked into high gear. Running the 5870 XFX 1 gig.

7FPS can make a noticeable (for me) difference when the FPS is at ~25... 25 to 30 - noticeable.

BTW I've always run overclocked video cards, since like 1998, and I've never had any "burn out" on me in any way.

Yeah, I never keep them long enough to burn them out. My room temp is usually 26-27C in the house in the summer.

I've kept cards for up to 1.5-2 years, and they've been fine. I also voltmodded my 7900GT back in the day on stock cooling and it was fine :-D .
