All you have to do is go into documents/bfbc2beta/settings and change bloom = true to false and boo ya no more stupid bloom, + 5-10 more FPS. :OK:

for those of us who are uneducated in the dark computer arts (by that i mean me) what is bloom?

hmm The physical basis of bloom is that, in the real world, lenses can never focus perfectly. Even a perfect lens will convolve the incoming image with an Airy disc (the diffraction pattern produced by passing a point light source through a circular aperture) [1]. Under normal circumstances, these imperfections aren't noticeable; but, an intensely bright light source will cause the imperfections to become visible. As a result, the image of the bright light appears to bleed beyond its natural borders.

Interesting, so bloom is like enhanced motion blur, I guess?

So whats bloom? are you talking about that psychedelic effect on the sniper scope? if so i kinda liked that

Not until you clarified it...

Right, well sorry about that. Thought you would have taken it was a joke. I didn't think you would have actually thought, nor did I think anyone would have thought that I was actually calling you an idiot.

Bloom is basically one of those things (like HDR) which, in real life, photographers work their ass of to remove from photos, while game developers freely and massively add to their games to make them look "cooler" or "prettier" or whatever.

It's basically a "soft glow" around really bright spots on objects, and around objects in general. I don't really think it's supposed to simulate anything - it's just a cheap way to make the render look "better" (as opposed to more detailed modelling / texturing / lighting).

That said, I actually do like bloom.

LoL Heat, as always!!! Yeah, bloom kinda looks cool in most of the games, but in BFBC2 I think they got a lil carried away with it. Its either that or the map has too much freaking white/snow on it so it makes it look stupid

I've noticed one thing though, mixed between playing BF2142 and the Valdez map. I feel like I'm color blind while playing those two. Not, that there should be vibrant color or anything, I was just sharing an observation. My point that I'm leading up to is..
is it me, or the does the sniper's camo work pretty good in BC2? I wonder if the bloom helps with that.

I've sorta noticed that too. Hiding at the bottom of the hill where the attackers come from is easy. They all storm down and you are just crouched in a tree and they never find you unless someone spots you, which in hardcore it's not a problem. I dunno if bloom helps at all though considering bloom never worked for me in the first place. Even with changing that configuration file from true to false.

any more config file changes to make? i was reading a few on the BC2 support forum to get a few more fps out of the game.
