Last rig I built was in the summer of 2009...so my shit is a little outdated by now to say the least. Finally gonna drop the cash and build a new one. Not going for a crazy intense gaming rig, just something solid. Not worried about overclocking and liquid cooling etc. Going for a sweet blue and black theme.
Been doing a lot of research and here's what I've come up with
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=30612047
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 450D Black ATX Mid Tower Gaming Computer Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139042
Just a classy as fuck case, looks great. Don't need anything bigger or gaudier.
($120 free shipping from amazon)
CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 Haswell Quad-Core 3.3GHz LGA 1150 84W Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

Don't care about OC'ing so this one is perfect. Brand new, fast.
Mobo: MSI Z97S SLI Plus LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

Not too expensive, all the features I need, and the newest tech. Cheapest one with 8 SATA ports, as my hard drive collection is ever expanding.
GPU: SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100364VXL Radeon R9 270X 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support OC WITH BOOST Video Card

Great bang for the buck, already bought a slightly used one on ebay for only $120. Cool and quiet. Don't need much more power.
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

Very solid. Bought for ~$80 from Amazon.
SSD: Crucial MX100 CT512MX100SSD1 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Cheap and fast, doesn't get any better.
Already have like 6TB of storage in other drives, so just need this for my boot drive, games, and programs. 512 is a good amount, any less and I'd be constrained.
OS: Windows 8.1 - you guys convinced me.
Would love some feedback. Pretty set on most of these things, but could be swayed through persuasive arguments I suppose. Have only bought the GPU so far so no going back on that one.
Edit: just heard of a thing called Startisback, anyone have any experience with it? seems like it could make windows 8 much better and maybe worth getting. Damn lack of a start button was a deal breaker
