Computer restarts during BF3

Hello all, help would be much appreciated:

My computer is shutting down and restarting during BF3 consistently now. This problem started a month or so ago and was rare / intermitten. Now, it is expected to occur within the first 5 mins of gameplay in BF3.

I've ran 3Dmark and it happens sometimes with it as well. Sometimes it will pass though. Also ran MemTest with no errors on RAM. Check PSU with DMM under load and voltages are 12.06 lowest + .003, 5.05, and 3.32. They are at those values under load (During gameplay) and then suddenly without any warning the computer shuts down as if the power was disconnected.

Now, the latest to top it off, this problem hasn't occured outside of BF3 or 3DMark (high stress situations), but it happened while i was writing this thread (the 1st time, had to redo). It was weird though because normally it was shutting off and restarting, but this time it didn't turn off, it went to blank screen and said something like the monitor wasn't detecting an HDMI device. (That is making me think vid card, but I don't know, everything is less then 2 years old). I tryed turning off and on monitor with no change of detection of HDMI device. I had to hard reset with power button to reboot...

Thanks in advance!

Intel Sandy Bridge I7 2600k @ 3.4 GH
Asrock P67 Extreme4 MB
8 Gig DDR3 RipJaw
Radeon HD 6970
Win 7 X64
750W HX CORSAIR Professional Series

Also forgot to mention I uninstalled drivers and reinstalled most current AMD catalyst 12.10. Also tryed previous, no fix.

This obviously occurs when the computer get stressed. I have the same power supply and it doesn't give me any problems, that being said I have some questions for you:

- For how long have you been using the power supply?
- Have you ever try a fresh installation of the Operative System during the problem period of time to verify is not a software related problem?
- What are your temperatures?
- Have you ever put NEW thermal paste on your GPU and CPU to avoid over heating problems?
- Do you have another computer to test out your power supply?

Let me know ASAP so we can think of a solution, cheers man.

I'd run a temp monitor which will spit out a warning if u get too hot. Also make sure it's running logs.

Uhh... silly me the power cord was half seated I think, so far so good, thx anyways peepz.

I'd guess the GPU is failing.

Or the power cord might be connected properly! :D

Hey blue, blue... Hey Blue.. Make sure you check the power cable :D

Dafuk? The power cord to what? Like the one going from the power socket to the PSU? If it wasn't making a connection how was the PC even working o_0 ?

If it doesn't disappear I can tell you that to me it sounds CPU or MOBO-related.

System memory ("RAM stick") errors usually result in weird behavior like things getting corrupted in programs you're using, files during copying, etc. etc. and windows errors, or in the worst case a blue screen.

The video card usually either shows corruptions on textures or weird artifacts (GPU memory problem) or heavy artifacts/total video lock-ups (GPU core problem).

CPU/mobo errors usually either blue-screen or completely lock-up the computer.

Also power problems usually result in a complete lock-up...

Okay, the problem wasn't solved and has continuously been occuring since I posted "problem solved", well it's as HeatSurge had mentioned in his post "If it comes back". To answer your question HeatSurge, in one of the instances of my troubleshooting I didn't re-seat the PSU 120V cord to the back of the PSU completely. This resulted in the same symptoms as what I am still having, but amplified (it occured quickly upon start of bf3). How did it work? Apparently it was enough connection to start, but under higher load it would cut out. Now after reseating the plug it works longer, but cuts out at later point, I can wiggle the plug all day with it fully seated and it is fine (before I found it by wiggling and it shut off). Well anyways, I connected DMM and the 3.3, 5, and 12 volt rail all read at or slightly above their values within .02 volts and steady all the way to the point of the random shutdown. Also the PSU fan is on until the shutdown.

Kerfulct - Concerning temperatures, they are all tolerable as far as I know and have read about. The following are the temperatures under load of BF3 gameplay were verified multiple instances just prior to computer random shutoff. CPU = 48C Max, GPU = 43C Max, GPU 60C Max.

Also last night I removed 1 stick of RAM alternatively and tested and the random power shutdown still occured. Also tryed different circuit in the house on a different breaker... still occurs.

Have you looked at event viewer yet? Wonder if there is an answer in there or at least something that points a possible cause.

Ive had the same issue blue, could it simply be your power supply going? or did you just get it or something?

Bob- event viewer only shows unexpected shutdown error...
Waflz- I got it a few months prior to BF3 release. Its 750 watt corsair pro series HX, says on box warrantied for 7 years so if it is the PSU, It's good its warrantied, but how can I be sure...The voltages read correct without a slip, then bam restart...

I've been reading overclock.net forums, similar instances, I'm going to try disabling AMD audio drivers, says that might be confilicting according to the thread I was reading there.

My Power supply was perfect, and every now and then it was drain, and cause a loss and restart my computer. Im one to leave my computer running so it wears things out.

Over time eventually my computer would turn off instead of restart ect ect...

Replaced my power supply and insta fix :D
