So, keeping with any good holiday tradition, I resolved to play CSS this year. So, I purchased and installed Counter Strike Source today. I know the possibility of a |TBG| CSS server is still remote and tentative, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

In the meantime, does anyone else here play CS Source or DoD Source?
 
i have CS source, haven't played much in a while. I didn't like DOD (heroes of stalingrad 2 will be my DoD when its released). Yea, we will eventually have a server set up for CS:S. I know quite of few are looking forward to that.
 
I have CS:S and play it on occasion, actually played it quite alot the first few weeks I owned it. There are not too many good admined servers out there.
 
Well, here comes the first few of what will probably be a long line of questions... Lot's of places to get info out there, but I prefer to get as much info as I can from a trustworthy source. So, here goes:


  • How many maps are necessary outside of what came with the game? I know there are 1,000's of mods out there and I'll worry about those as necessary. However, I went through about a dozen Steam servers I couldn't join the other day because I didn't have the right map.

  • Where is a safe place to locate a few maps? I refuse to download from just anywhere with a map link. Me thinks you guys will know some safe resources.
Next questions concern the video below...
 
How safe is it to mess around in the console? Ive got experience doing it from other games, but I don't want to assume this is just like other games until someone tells me it is.

How about this thing with editing config files? Again, done it with other games when adjusting "certain" values was totally normal. Messing with certain values, etc., would get you kicked ( and maybe banned ) but adjusting some other settings, binds, etc., to user preferences was totally normal. What's the deal with CSS?

Well, the words HOLY SHIT are the first thing that come to mind...

Map Count: 23,683

WTF?!?! How do you even know where to begin? Starting to think I just opened up the never-ending story or something. LMAO!

I thought this was just a small, fun, little FPS, like Enemy Territory or something. Sure a few map mods, etc., but instead I'm seeing infinite possibilities for fun!
 
There is the camp G map from 2142 on there someplace, if I am not mistaken. :P

Also a Simpson one too, I recommend those.

thats what I said basically unlimited amount of maps. Thats why the game still goes on strong, plus patches. Its very overwhelming isn't it?

Simpsons? LMAO! Now that would be a classic map to play! You'll have to introduce me to the server running that map sometime :-)

Overwhelming is not even the word. But I'm betting this is one of the best gaming investments I've made in a long time. It seems like it could take a really long time for the game to get old. WooT!
