Bought 2142 when it came out but only played 3 weeks. I was heavily into EVE online x 4 accts so I dropped 2142. Went back to 2142 recently. Now...as a freakin sargeant..trying to get points..I find the game to be 1 sided. Even though we all have the same # of slots and heavy armor or not.....this games a bitch to play. I have pumped several rounds into enemies weather I am in a tank or just my pri weapon. First..don`t tell me about the soft spots on all vehicles. I have read till my eyes have bleed about this game. I have an ass kickin computer with 50 mg dsl. I am rockin 2 killer cards in sli with a frame rate of 150. All my specs are turned all the way down. 800x 600...yeah..believe it. The motion mines in this game are sissy kills. Throw them and run away like a little girl. No skill at all. I smack you at your soft spots 3 times, and you 1 shot me...both in tanks. The pilots in this game are top notch. No newbies around anymore. Try an get 20 knife kills now. Yeah right. All the posts are 3 years old. Don`t believe your gonna run around and kick ass like they say. I wanna know how the top guys in each game have like 60 to 70 kills. Yeah..I just got off..an I`m kinda pissed. Sure you can tell.

You know, I haven't played 2142 since April of this year, but I can tell you a lot of times knowledge of the map and tactics help a great deal. I was a pilum whore when I played and loved taking out gunships, tanks, apcs, infantry with them and it was standard to 60-70 to 90 kills a round playing a titan map. But, like I said I haven't played it since April.

As for the pilots, it's always about the timing and picking your spots. You can take them down pretty easily, but not if you go running out in the open where they're targeting. Of course, sometimes it's fun to take them out that way too as a nice way to say Fuck You! And yeah, I've played against a lot of the best since a lot of the best gunship whores are TBG also.

More than anything, I'd make sure to squad up with some decent players and focus on playing together as a squad. You get more kills, more points, and have more fun that way. Other than that, I don't know what else to tell you.

As a wise man once said, "Sometimes it's just a simple matter of standing up, getting sniped, getting revived, standing up, getting sniped, getting revived, standing up, thinking better of it, crouching down, and getting killed by a well-aimed rocket..."

You realize pretty much every single Supreme Commander in the game aimbots right?
I don't think I'm an incredible player, but I got Lieutenant General, which is the second highest rank, only 4 players can have it.

Essentially, it sometimes boils down to luck. If your team sucks but the other team is full of veterans, you aren't likely to do well.

I had a round yesterday on NS Remegen Titan, my team sucked, really, and the server was half-full.
I joined halfway through, and singlehandedly defended the titan against the whole enemy team with APM + RDX + Knife. Gold Star, 45 Kills, etc. I only did that cause the other team was bad.

So really, don't beat yourself, its luck, and sometimes they are just better.

Just keep ranking up, play what your good at.

This fits you very well. lolz

There is no replacement for experience.

If you finding yourself outmatched try to play 1 single player game and turn the skill all the way down so you can kill them easily. the idea is to get high kills so you see the effectiveness of the weapons.
then try to play multiplayer. if you get a good warm up it will help when you play. Also as sixer said you have to be in a good squad.

Another thing...maybe it's just me but every time I start playing I suck ass for a couple of rounds until I get a feel for the game again and then everything seems to click. Don't give up after a couple of rounds of not doing well. We all have them at some point or another.

Thx for the input.....

I usually only play the titan maps. My choice is Suez Canal. I know the map inside and out. I think there are way too many motion mines put out, and 1 great pilot can really piss you off. I haven`t got the pilum yet. Seems I better work towards that way. I`m trying to do the ribbons or badges I don`t have, but it`s hard. It`s way too slow joining a squad and just killing. Prob is,,I`ll jeep it all the way to the enemies side and blow up the 2 radar, but I get no resupply`s, so..unless I can find a kit..I usually get killed b4 I can get more for the badge. I`ve tried repairing. Everytime I jump out to repair...I get killed. Sometimes I get lucky and get a streak going with a good squad, but mostly I struggle for little points every game. I don`t think I`m a careless or stupid player, but jeez.....thx again for the tips.

but I can tell you a lot of times knowledge of the map and tactics help a great deal.

That and if you dont have a good strategy to take down experienced armor pilots, I suggest you to avoid them as much as possible. And yes Newbs get the shit smacked out their faces when they start playing 2142. Just like i did back in 2007.

Every time I got killed, I analysed how it all happend and tried not to do the same mistake again. Of course it took time, but I can now say I am a feared soldier on the field. Learn to use weapons correctly. LMG's are good starter weapons, Defend silos. ALWAYS keep an eye on your minimaps. Dont dirrectly go for the new guns in the unlocks, as you can get items that are more usefull. ( all guns are powerful and deadly in good hands).

Join squad with experinced players, Follow them. Spawn medic and revive them when needed. Do burst shot, dont spray expect with sub machine guns. drop Med/ammo kits when ever possible. Again always check your minimap. Dont go into a hot zone if you know your not gonna be able to take a whole squad.

Also analyse the battle field. Open your Big map and check whats going on instead of spawning randomly on a spawnpoint. You may hear that an armor/support is needed at a defensive position.

Works for me.
Remember, getting good at this fps take time and skillz. If you ever played counter strike well i suggest you forget every thing about it.

Wardog.

EDIT: consider using the sudnik and mitchell-AV instead of the pilum. I always roll with them. The alerting sound can get in your advantage. Only good place i suggest you to use a pilum is in tight maps like fall of berlin ect... or to overload consoles, but trust me standar AV weapons will come more handy in a round then a pilum. You can also kill enemy infantry at quite a good distance. As for gunship, i suggest you to use a APC, EMP them get out and shot an AV rocket.
Hope this helps

Like anything else. Play alot and get good. Don't expect to get 60-70 kills every game, but you should at least get in the neighborhood of 40. Once you've played it about 50,000 times like a lot of us you will do alright.

Some rounds rock, others suck wang, that's how it goes sometimes. If any of us are in, make sure you are in vent so you can team up if you wish. I will say, that isn't always a guarantee of an awesome round/win. How many times have we all been in a kickass squad and the team still loses. Kind of like "we defend the titan, they switch to silos. then we go take silos back and the rest of the team scratches its collective ass and lets them take down the titan while we are on the ground."

Ahh, the joy of 2142. Still love it though.

I have to disagree with you here, wardog. The pilum is handy on any map for infantry, ground vehicles, airborne vehicles and the titan. There's very few times I'd use the stock mitchell over a pilum, but maybe that's just me. I freely admit I'm a pilum whore : )

I just like it better than the mitchell as the pilum can be used a scant bit quicker and speed is of the essence most times, especially if you have to switch weapons. It's like using Krylov vs the lamber-the krylov reloads just a little quicker than the lambert and it makes a difference.

Someday you have to teach me the art of killing a tank in one shot, as happens to me (hence, why I stay the fuck out of them when possible). I do whore the pilum quite a bit also, which also explains my lack of a gold assault. To each, their favorites, right?

Yes, I used to be a pilum user before. I have to give it to the pilum for dealing more damage also it might be a little quicker. Like I said, in tight quarter combat ill go with the pilum. But what happens on the big maps? Try and snipe armors soft spots with the pilum over 250 meters, good luck. Youll be wasting your ammo.

That scenario happened to me way to often to ever get a pilum back in my hands on haway tampa or shuia thaiba!

"The pilum is handy on any map for infantry, ground vehicles, airborne vehicles" Yes but the sudnik/mitchell dose all that but in better IMO. you can kill infantry at ridiculously quick/rang with them (they then cannot be revived). Hit moving vehicles with a better accuracy. And the best of all it is the only weapon with who i can kill gunships whores so they dont get a flawless score. SAAW forget it, pilum forget it. But with the starters you can anticipate the trajectory of the GS and shot in front of it and at the last moment deviate your aim on the target. 9 time out of 10 the pilot wont have time to press the shields and gg. And the alerting sound on the starters can make panic any good armor/air pilotsso they fall in motion mines trap.

Like on the Europe server that used to be around, they all used starter Rockets and you never knew where to hit was gonna come from, therefor making your shield useless.

But its just my point of view, i think those are pretty strong arguments. And for real, when im engineer Ill run with my Rocket launchers and switch to the SMG's only if I have missed my shots. So the minor delay of "getting your weapon out" is out of the question.

I still give it to the pilum players, they can get me quite few times in one round. And dont get me wrong, the pilum is deadly in the right hands.

There's a right weapon for the right job. :D

I've played a few rounds, squading up with a good group of guys that could handle their own makes it worthwhile. I love the engineer kits & always role with motion mines; placing a group of them together always takes out the big boys. Most of the time I would always be on a silo...not camping, if you are going to camp don't expect a lot of kills or points. The silo itself gives you great cover, after rounds you realize where everybody comes from & what to expect. Like sixer said it takes some time to get a good feel for the game. I aways love the titan attack because of the kills you can get. I have to agree with the use of the pilum because of the speed of the projectile. Most of the pilots in our community would agree that a pilum would catch them off guard. Here is a video that I made: YouTube - Balls2dawall
The best advice that I can give you is find a kit that you are good at. When I attacked the voss w/ PK rockets can give out a lot of fire power.

Done!

Step 1: Be a sneaky bastard
Step 2: Don't be a hero, shoot the tank in the ass.

There you go-one shot and done. This is fun if you take a buggy with two guys, the driver distracts the tank and keeps going while the passenger hops out, pilum ready and puts one up the backside of the tank.

It's easy really, just shoot the tank in the ass. Aim for any of the grilling and, of course, make sure they don't have a shield deployed.

The same goes for walkers-one shot and done!

Step 1. Use and emp grenade or APC to stall the walker at close range.
Step 2. Have pilum ready, and aim for the grills on the underside of the walker and fire away. Most times, you'll be pretty fucked up health wise by the time you're done, but it works every time. I love this one the best because walkers are just damn annoying.

Not true, I have pulled off some really amazing long ranged 1 hit 1 kill pillum shots before. You just need to judge the distance, wait for the right moment, and let luck do the rest..

Yeah? well you did say you pulled "SOME" meaning a bunch of other try's where fails. Why judge and wait for the right moment and let luck decide we you can shot from cover, stand up, aim for weak spot = 100% hit.

Anyways just trying to say to slick dog that he could get something else then the pilum at early levels. Thats what I would do if I had to restart a new soldier.

AIMBOTS???.......Really??..How Nieve I Am!

Wow, I don`t cheat...so I didn`t know what aimbots were till I googled it. WTF is punkbuster for? Here..all this time.....I actually thought that there were no (or barely any) cheaters online. I thought that mabee a few real smart ones got around it, but for the most part, I actually thought PB did something. I feel like such a freakin moron now. Pay 20 bucks. Fire it up. Start 2142...and rule the game. Is it just the players who run commander all the time, or does almost everyone running around have it?? I saw it online and read about it. You can change/manipulate amazing shit. I mean...if your running it...and I`m not....why fuckin bother playing. Just my 2 cents.
