Yes, it's a server processor technically, and yes it's socket 939 (it is going straight to the museum after I'm done with it lmao). It's practically identical with the "X2 number+" desktop series... just a better "yield" or whatever - that's probably why it overclocks that high.
I used to run mine at 2.75ghz as they do in the review, but decided to take it down a notch to 2.70ghz... just for safety. The memory is running 1:1 with it and it's right on the edge of failure (it's not stable at 2.8 at least with this cooling) so I decided to be better safe than sorry. I've had memory errors before and after I discovered them I had to repair a bunch of stuff that was corrupted around the hdd because of that (stuff that had gone through memory), so never again will I do anything without having tested the memory inside and out.
It was teh bleeding edge when I got it... before core 2 came out. But it's been a couple of years since then... perhaps even 3 or 4.
I run Boinc projects on it (Seti@home, rosetta@home and world community grid) 24/7, even while gaming (on low priority), so both cores are never below 100%. Still running strong (knock on wood).
Yes, by now it should be painfully obvious on this forum that I have WAY too much free time and a sick mind. (btw I made my signature from the movie that I just saw yesterday too - just added the Pwnt! and Lulz!... movie's called "Drag Me To Hell" and it's a fun/campy horror... not bad at all, but not serious at all if that's what you're looking for)
Glad at least soldier's on my wavelength (btw !w soldier at least cut off the useless side of your screenshot - it's fucking HUGE!).
