Ok, so it's about time I update my GPU. I'm currently running a GTS 460 Fermi SC. It's been great, but I've had it for several years now, and with BF4, I need something heavier-duty.

I'm wrapping up development on a website for a client, so I should have a budget of 1k-1.5k. I don't want to blow the whole load on GPU's, but if I need to, then ok.

Basically, I want to get BF4 running > 60fps (solid) with the important options on Ultra (meshes, terrain deco, etc...). I also want something that's gonna last me awhile. Now, the kicker is I'm still air cooled, I haven't spent any time doing the research about WC (thought my HAF-932 should handle it just fine).

I've been looking at the 780Ti, since it outperforms the 290X, but with GSync coming out, and Mantle, I'm not sure which direction I should go.

Anybody have any thoughts?

Here's my current system:
ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel i7 950 (3.06 GHz) Quad-Core
Corsair 12Gb DDR3 1600GHz
EVGA 01G-P3-1452-TR GeForce GTS 450 (Fermi) Superclocked 1GB
OCZ-Agility 60Gb SSD Boot
WD Velociraptor 200 Gb Storage
Win 8.1 Pro 64-Bit

780TI

The 290 is a great card but runs hotter than satan's balls. Plus, Mantle is a maybe and I keep hearing EA is pushing it to the back shelf more and more. If you're not water cooling the 780ti will do all you want and then some and still run at reasonable temps. Since it's a beefed up 780 it will draw more power so make sure your PSU can handle whatever load you put on that sucker since the GPU alone can eat up to 400W with overclocking it.

I'm running a 650W Gold right now, an upgrade would probably be a good idea, huh?

Yeah, since it's recommended to have 600W for the GPU and if you're OCing the CPU plus all the other shit on the MB it wouldn't hurt. A good 750-850W would do you fine running one card. I've just read too many forum posts about 600-650 PSUs getting overloaded with the 780ti and an OC on the cpu.

I've actually left the CPU alone, I haven't overclocked anything on the machine yet. But I will def pick up a >850W PSU, might just spring for the 1000W modular.

Yeah, it never hurts to have more than you need, especially with the Gold rated ones or higher. Just make sure it's a quality PSU and you'll be fine.

Like sixer said 750 + power supply is good with single GPU. I run everything overclocked and have a watt meter and never go over 450 watts used. I have a 770 GTX 4gb video card and it has been great. Average 70 -80 fps on ultra so any 770 or equivalent card or better you will be happy. You just need to decide on your price point

Yeah at this point for the price you might as well get a 780TI, bump up that video card, and then overclock your CPU so its not a bottleneck. You'll probably see a nice improvement with even just a 10% overclock. I highly recommend getting a closed loop water cooler (corsair 100i has been very good to me). If you want to go the full water cooling route I'd wait until you plan to rebuild your rig (just my opinion on that).
