I had just set down to play some games I set my beer down in a weird spot in front of my keyboard, I even thought I better move that. When one of my neighbors started yelling as I got up to see what was going on I knocked my beer over and into my tower ;( Instant black screen. The power LED comes on but nothing when I hit the power button, I am pretty sure the PSU is toast. I have been due for a serious upgrade but have been putting it off. Now I am stuck trying to use this very old Win XP netbook to find the parts for my new build. I am goiing to go higher end on the video card but I need help finding the MOBO and CPU. I am trying to get the MOBO CPU and PSU done for under 400. It is such a pain to search for things on this dinosaur I am using. AMD FX series?

I'm not a fan of laptops I like the tinkering part of a tower.
I already ordered a EVGA 970 and 16 gigs of corsair semi bargain RAM.
I am leaning for the bottom tier i5 and a 100 dollar range MOBO. Hopefully I didnt fry my HDs

I keep my laptop bolted under the table. I know that if i kept it on the table i'd fuck it up.

You do know though that all msi laptops are wildly upgradeable?

I keep mine on a old cutting board under my desk. I had no idea you could do anything more than add RAM to any laptop, that's pretty cool, What all can you do to them? I already bought everything essential.

I will be getting some case fans later. Is there a 120mm fan setup that has a removable filter on it? That would be sweet.

Does anyone know how the Windows 7 disk works? I heard that it is attached to your Mobo and you would need to purchase another copy to use it on a new one.

Specs.

Mobo
Z97s SLI Krait edition

CPU
i5-4590

Cooler
Antec kuhler h20 1250

GPU
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB

RAM
Corsair 16GB 1600MHZ

PSU
Corsair CX series 750 Watt semi modular

Its nothing spectacular but I think it shall be an excellent pron machine. I should be up and running Wednesday night or Thursday.

You need the win 7 key.

Man.. that sucks. I recently fried my keyboard doing something like that.. didn't realize the drink wad shaken up.... popped the top and BOOM

I have the CD and the key that it came with but I dont know if I will need to buy a new key for the new Mobo.

It does and doesn't suck. I am basically upgrading from a i7-920 and a 750ti to an i5-4590 and a gtx 970. I just wish I was able to upgrade to what I really wanted instead of doing it when my money is tied up with trying to buy a house. I will be extremely happy when I am not using this netbook anymore.

You should be fine. If activation fails they will give you a number to call. Just tell them you had to reinstall.

Well the graphics card showed up early. Everything is installed I didnt need to do a full HD wipe. I am currently running it like this but I am leaning toward a full wipe of the OS. The Antec software is garbage, at least one of the fans are spinning its supposed to be automatic but I have my doubts.... and I cant access the settings. I can see the settings button but it doesn't do a thing when I click it. Also if I turn the fans on the Graphics card up to high my computer almost fly's across the room. I am going to run it like this till the weekend and see how it performs and if I don't like it I am wiping the HDs.

Quick update BF4 is running at 140 FPS on ultra. Better than 60 FPS on low....
