Yeah, that would be safer. Don't need to slice a finger or thumb.
Is Liquid Pro better than Arctic Silver 5?
 
Liquid pro is much better for delidding but wouldn't recommend it for normal thermal paste between cooler and cpu and it's a bitch to use.

If your doing this most people will already have custom watercooling but want to push for even higher overclocks. I was lucky getting 5ghz with 1.256v and didn't need to de-lid but others may need to do this method if they want 4.6 and above, even with decent watercooling or the best aircoolers.
 
Doing this to a CPU would mean not spending much on cooling.

What I use to do was 'lap' the CPU and cooler base.
