I couldn't record the entire flight in real time because it would take several hours from departure to landing if I did it by the book, so I just recorded the approach & landing portion of the flight.

This is the first time I ever tried to record and make an up loadable video, so you will have to forgive me if it seems a bit rough. There is a lot of switching between views because to get Fraps to record it properly, I had to run the flight on a single monitor where normally it's displayed across 3 but I mentioned before Fraps would not record it that way. :(

This was a flight from Atlanta Hartsfield to Tampa International in a Boeing 737 using Microsoft's Flight SimulatorX. I also use a program called "Flight Sim Pro" which is actually more realistic by a hair than Flight SimX, however both these games are focused more on the realistic aspects of flying than they are graphics, so while the graphics may not be that impressive compared to the games most of us normally play the realism in both these games is as realistic as you get short of flying in a training simulator or flying the actual plane itself.

You can play these games with a standard joy stick but to get the most out of them you're looking at investing $300 to $500 in peripherals not counting the games themselves and the additional cost of monitors if you want to be able to display it across multiple monitors like I do.

To get the optimal flight experience when playing these games, I recommend using the "Saitek X52 Pro Flight Stick" combined with the "Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Pedals" and the "Saitek PC Pro Flight Multi Panel" I also suggest using 3- 27"monitors so that you can get a panoramic view which makes it feel more like you're in the cockpit.

I am not sure why I choose to make a video of this other than I wanted to give it a try and this was the only thing I could think of. I don't play with the flight simulator stuff that often because to do it properly and by the book you're looking at a minimum time commitment of roughly 2 hours even to do just a short flight.

Don't worry I won't boar the hell out of you guys by posting a bunch of videos of me flying, like I said before, I just wanted to try making one myself to see how it came out and this was the only thing I could think of recording. :)

* Note The beeping sound you hear is the Nav radio receiving data from the ILS localizer at the airport.

That's really cool - I would need the terrorist cabin seige simulation in the middle though.

Embed fixed. Not sure where you copied the embed code, but it was not correct.

Expensive habit... Looks fun, but me thinks I could learn to fly faster by flapping my arms. Way too much detail and realism for anyone except the hardcore fan ( which I now assume you to be. ) Of course, I've probably spent half that much time learning about subs just so I could play through the Silent Hunter series, so yeah, I've got no room to talk. :-\

Thanks for sharing, though, as I definitely enjoyed watching for a few minutes. I like detailed sims, just don't have the patience to play them through.

Ah another Flight Sim fanatic. Great to see! If only I could find my FSX key (or, better, if only FSX didn't require a damn key)!

Very nice, Shockwave. Commercial jet is far from easy, thanks for sharing dude!

Yea there's a lot you have to learn when it comes to flying commercial jets but the most challenging flights are carrier landings & take off's with the F18 Super Hornet. The take off is not too hard to master but the landings can be very, very tricky. I would like to say that I always make it back aboard successfully but unfortunately that's not the case I am only batting about 80% on successful carrier landings. The helicopters can also be quite a challenge especially if you set the simulation for bad weather conditions. I may take a shot at a carrier take off & landing this afternoon. If I don't crash & burn, I will post a short video of it. : )

I posted 3 screen shots below for you guys to look at. Out of all the planes I fly the F18 is the most fun and that damn B52 or "Big Fat Fellow" as it's affectionately called in the military is one of the most difficult due to its size and weight.

Between the 2- simulations programs and all the extras I downloaded, I have about 300 different variations I can choose from huts about every make and model of plane ever made.

Microsoft is currently working on a new version to replace Flight Simulator X and from what I have seen it will definitely be on my to get list when it's released. :)

Yeah; MS Flight, I think it's called. I'm looking forward to it, but I think I'm going to grab X-Plane 10 upon release this spring.

Yea I have been looking forward to the release of X-Plane 10 as well.
