Is there some sort of USB attachment for a laptops' hard drive?

I'm inquiring for someone who needs to transfer old data from an old laptop hard drive...I imagine he's trying to transfer it to a new PC, I don't remember haha damn alcohol but anyways I imagine there must be some apparatus to make it easy.

TBG recommends decent stuff so I come to ask!

swap the hard driives if compatible?
Or "ghost" the hard drive onto an external(then into new computer)?

there are more sites out there with more information, but this page will at least give you an idea if that is what he is looking for.

Is the drive sata? It uses the same connector as desktop drives if so. Only difference is adapters meant for laptop drives don't provide the 12v for desktop drives. There are hundreds of sata to USB products out there from simple bare dongles to enclosures.

Good info, thanks gentlemen! If it was up to me, I would just connect it to a home network, allow file sharing, then drag and drop whatever I want to keep but maybe his laptop isn't working at all. I haven't been able to get in contact with him so I don't know the specifics of the type of hard drive it is but I'll share this info with him. Thanks again!
