lately when playing bfbc2 (and prototype) i have beenhaving strange graphics issues, the ones shown in the video, as well as strange squares of black dotting around on my screen. any ideas? from what i have read it may be the graphics card's vram or my mobo ram.

Do you have the ability to monitor temps and voltage on the card?

not entirely sure, i guess i should mention that it is a sapphire hd5770 though

What driver are you using? Those same problems have been related to a driver release, though I forget which one.

How old is the card?, Has it just started happening?, Does it happen with other games or applicatons?
More than likely its called pixelization which is the card going bad. It has been known to happen when you update a driver but you would have probably figured it out if that was the case. That is just a preliminary diagnosis.

Yeah, those look like texture glitches. Try some new drivers as sixer suggested. The thing that worries me though is that ATI cards and random black squares usually means unstable clock speed on the memory. Use CCC to turn the memory clocks down 10mhz and I bet those will go away.

i turned off the overclock on my processor and it seems to be resolved for now. i will give it some time and see if it is indeed fixed

prototype still has the issue... catalyst says it is 10.3 and i have tried upgrading to 10.5 but it just says it may not have completed properly and windows did it's compatability thing

Umm, if I ever said it's probably video card memory, scratch that.

Video card memory going bad usually gives you BLACK squares (usually) around the screen, and they're most often flat and perpendicular to the screen (i.e. they're not on objects of the game necessarily). Alternatively, sometimes the textures start mixing up with other textures or turn into psychedelic colors (or just one of the textures would fuck up), but once they're fucked, they do NOT flicker. They stay fucked up. The latter might be due to the core / temperature too though. Sometimes (either core or ram), there's black lines around objects (like every frame black random lines) but usually they end up in a complete crash less than 10 seconds later...

Also, I don't think you can usually capture the memory glitches with fraps, which leads me to believe it might be driver issues.

Seeing this, I actually feel like it's either a driver glitch or your video card core is overheating (or "going bad"). Try updating drivers/switching drivers. For monitoring temps something like MSI Afterburner or even GPU-Z should be able to do it.

Monitor some temps during the game.

Also, you might want to see if your video card crashes or displays glitches with Ozone3D's "Furmark" - look it up. Run it for 10-15 minutes. Beware - running furmark rapes your video card probably like it's never been raped before, so it might crash in furmark, but you might be able to play games fine (that would explain the glitch though). A properly cooled, stable card should never ever crash on furmark, or even glitch.

Weird, I'm guessing driver issues then... or strange side-effects from CPU overclocking? IDK.

best way to test it is run 3dmark vantage if it gives u probs then its most likely your vid card, but first run memtest, burn it to a cd then reboot with it in the drive to run a lengthly test on your ram

pilot - what's the driver version? not the CCC version

Driver Packaging Version 8.74-100406a-098262E-ATI

this one?

And or try this - this order not all at once

1.Uninstall the driver and then reinstall new driver

2. uninstall CCC then reinstall CCC

i installed it from the 10.5 suite and had no change in the glitches, will try memtest tonight or tomorrow.

don't do it from the suite

do them seperately -driver first and only the driver

do even worry about CCC version just get updated to 8.74+

should be nothing wrong with the card. When i had this problem the driver wasn't installing right.

CCC 10.6 is now out with a driver upgrade.

Work with the driver only until you have the right driver installed.

8.732 is an old one!!!!!!!!!

this is what happens even with the new drivers
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oXIaHoFgNXQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oXIaHoFgNXQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

what i will be doing is ordering another card and i will RMA the current one, that way i am not left without my gaming machine, and when i get the current one back i will run 2 in xfire.
