Is this unbalanced gameplay?

First off let me start by saying how much I enjoy playing on the TBG servers and with fellow members. After being here a while, it's been great getting to know everyone and learning the rules and gaming with you guys.

However this has been building on me for a while and I just have to hear what you guys think. TBG is community based, cohesive game play, teamwork and friendship and lastly fair and balanced game play. Cheaters, hackers and glitching is not allowed by any members or on the servers on which anyone plays on which is outstanding. Anyone caught is not allowed to play here anymore, as it should be.

Hypothetically if someone cheats ie, through the use of locator hacks, aim bot or game hacks they are banned on the basis of unfair and balanced game play. However why is it that the use of ventrilo is considered fair and balanced game play and not considered unbalanced or unfair, or on the same level as hacking. How is it any different for someone on vent to call out to the other team members "Hey they're behind the dumpster." Or any other of the 1000 scenarios that can be relayed via vent that results in a unfair advantage to the people who don't have this ability. That is relaying private game information that only the gamer and the attacker/defender or aggressor would know.

In the end its still a 3rd party program that PBan's will not pick up or ban for. I might need some clarity but I don't see that much difference between you telling someone else where the opponent is and a hack program telling you where they are.
One opposing argument might be well "what about squad chat?" True, and good point, but squad chat has a maximum of 4 people in a squad in BFBC2, or 6 in BF 2142. Secondly it a game option by the allowed by creators. This completely changes the game play when you have 8-12 people on the same team with vent all against one side, you can dominate the other side completely because there is no way for the opposing team to have that kind of communication between them all.
Another might be spotting an enemy. This is also true, but this is line of sight only which was also put into the game by the developer.

Please in no way take this as a personal attack to the community or the gamers, I just would like to know what you guys think and maybe shed some light on if this method is really considered balanced, fair game play.
In the end it comes down to morality. Meaning, its legal but is it morally right or wrong. Hope to hear what you guys think. See you on the field.

I don't get it ? What about Voip? I came to TBG because we talked about the game......On Voip.....then on Vent were I got to know the guy's. Thats in no way cheating. United we stand divided you fall. Thats what a clan is all about. Playing with the best doesn't = cheat. Just means you lose. .....I'm I wrong!

I think voip and sqaud chat are the same thing. I could be wrong.

in bc2, voip sometimes works, and we're using a more reliable method of communication, however, there is nothing in the TOS against vent, and most players can find a public vent channel that they can use. this is one of the issues that non working voip in game has raised however, and i dearly hope they fix this simplest of issues. it really is too bad mumble does not work in this game..... 3d positional voip = awesomeness

That is true, however if you have 8-12 people who work together as a team cohesively you shouldn't even need vent. I have in rounds where the other team has put up more than a good fight, and we collectively have lost or have barely won.

Communication is key to good teamwork, they do go hand in hand, but only if it is exchanged both ways. In the end you have to have 1 or two people giving the team direction, leadership, organization, smooth execution and people doing their jobs is what defines success in game. As long as you continue to control initiative aka the "upper hand" you will win in the game hands down.

Having vent or voip is helpful yes, but does it unbalance gameplay? I think not. In 2142 and BC2 I have singlehandedly wiped out a whole clan playing on one side. just becuase you have the ability to talk to one another, doesn't necessarily equate advantage. One more comment I would like to make, then Ill get off the soapbox: After playing with a certain group of people for long enough, actions become implied, you don't have to say anything becuase everyone is on the same sheet of music. The military calls it a battle drill: it's an instinctive executable actions that you initiate in the presence of a given circumstance. For example, (in game) if you are taking sniper fire, everyone pops smoke, everyone runs to cover, the medic drops a box, the ammo guy drops a box, and the Engineer takes out an AT weapon in-case the sniper is in a building or something like the sort.

Axel, another thing about Vent is that it is available to anyone to use, thus, any unfair advantage it might create is only unfair until a person decides to join in on it's use ( much like in-game VOIP or even spotting a target for squad members, either one requires you to join to share the benefit. )

Often when me and other people play with TBG members, it's a 50/50 shot to see if everyone lands on the same team. Yet, we will all be on vent at the same time. And when someone spots me and says, "There's a sniper on top of tower 4!" Well, I simply reply, "No there's not..." And I promptly haul ass away from tower 4. No unfair advantage for them, but rather a huge advantage for me. :P

Trust in two things...

1) These boys don't need no advantages to play hard, they are as "1337" as it gets.

2)
Just like many Ventrilo and TeamSpeak servers ( around this and many other games ) TBG Vent is open to anyone that requests access.

Dude, what are you talking about???????

So I guess anyone is a cheater:
1. Those with larger monitors, so they can see the enemies better and larger, easier to head-shot or shoot on target.
2. Those who have better mouse's with extra buttons extra precision.
3. Those with better pc's.
4. Etc.

How on earth can you compare being in vent with downloadable skill? Do you really think that being on vent magically improves your accuracy? Really????????
Did you actually played on vent, so you know what kind of information is exchanged? Nothing even remotely close to your line of thought.

Dude, devote time, watch how better players do it and above all, be a team player and squad up. Once you do this, you will not have to worry about vent!

Working together is the cornerstone of clan play, and as such communication is key. Before I joined TBG I had my own TeamSpeak server for 4 - 5 years that me and a few others used but that was open to all. This is why groups come together -- so they can communicate and improve game play. And as Mega points out, does having a large widescreen monitor with top of the line graphics setup and kick ass connection make someone a cheater? If you want better communication join a Teamspeak or vent server -- almost any clan running servers has one available for the asking.

Having a kick-ass setup and connection is definitely a stronger leg up than using Vent or other VoIP.

I'd love to spend $1500 to upgrade my setup with every bell and whistle there is. I'm sure that I'd play better, too. Then add Verizon FiOS or something and and all my gaming troubles are cured! Regardless, it's as Renno says. Vent is used to point out hackers and add that last bit of situational awareness. We can all hear see tanks on the map or highlighted on the HUD. Vent occasionally makes up for where the game fails.

Well I don't have to comment because Crypt just said pretty much exactly what I had to say.

Axel, are you simply trying to justify stooping to the absurd level of stupidity that is hacking games? Why someone would ever cheat in a game by turning characters different color, making it so you auto aim or see characters across the map or in structures, or any number of other things that hacks allow is beyond me or others around here. It is truly an embarrassment to humanity that someone would find pleasure in being a such a dick. I asked our membership not to respond coarsely to this thread, but I now have a question: have you ever been banned for hacking?

Are you seriously asking why Ventrilo/Xfire/Teamspeak isn't viewed in the same light as an aimbot?
