So newegg has a sale on modems that are supported with Time Warner. Since they are charging me $6/month for rental fees I thought Id just buy one myself. Im kinda leaning towards a certain one but what would be the real difference between the two.

SB6121

SB6141

Cotton can probably work you up and down on the decision. The 6141 can achieve higher theoretical download speeds that your providor doesn't and probably won't offer in the next few years through channel bonding. You would be fine with the 6121. If you plan on going well past 100 - 150 Mbps cable then the 6141.

I have one of these D-Link DGL-4100 Broadband Gigabit Gaming Router.

GameFuel Priorty - Less lag for improved network performance.
Gigabit Ethernet - Up to 1000Mbps Wired throughput.

It's been sitting around for a couple of years. Didn't need it when I got FiOS.
Nothing wrong with it, and it worked flawlessly. Have original box and contents.

I'll sell it for $60, USA only shipping with tracking number.

Was quite expensive when it first came out.

A router and modem are quite different in function. That being said either modem would do well for your situation. Unless you plan on doing something with it you are not mentioning I'd go with the cheaper of the two.

I have this modem, with comcast. I've had it for 2 years now. I maybe have to power cycle it once every 6 months at most. With comcast I typically get speeds anywhere from 90-150MBps. Highest sustained download speeds I've got downloading from steam, for example, is 12.5 Mbps. Depending on your service, your mileage may vary.

Also, if you don't think you get the speeds you are paying for, don't be afraid to call your provider. I did some tests for awhile and was consistently only getting 29.6 MBps. Called comcast, and they told me "oh, we are pushing the wrong firmware to your modem. Let me fix that"

Anyway, GREAT modem, great price. You'll be very happy.
