Just got HughesNet satellite internet installed

I won't be able to get fiber until Wednesday, in the meantime I need some kind of internet at the new house. So wtf always wondered exactly how bad/good satellite was. I already knew latency was going to be bad, double possibly even triple what normal internet looks like. Boy was I wrong.

Upload is always the issue with Sat net, Download is never that bad.

Gaming with it is very hard.
 
Mac, I'm just gonna go ahead and fire my torpedoes and DHCs at you now. Feel free to explode sometime next week (after Wednesday, of course).
 
Torpedoes acknowledged on radar, still no impact.
 
TOLD YA.... not horrid speed but damn is that ping not going to get you anywhere. Oh and PING NAZI!

It has been this bad or worse since it was installed. It took most of this morning off altogether because it was overcast and light rain on and off. Fuck I can't wait for Wednesday! Fiber is going to seem like alien technology compared to this PATHETIC service. As best I can tell satellite internet is really ONLY good for people who live essentially off the grid or BFE.

I tether my phone at work and get 30 ping to our bf3 servers. pretty impressive actually.

I used to love I could park my steel bodied Austin Healey in direct line of site of the dish at my mother's house and we wouldn't lose signal but yeah a little rain and poof.

that was one of the things i liked best about mac and mines gaming schedule before i joined tbg....hate high pings with a passion!
 
9.29 down and 8.94 up on lte on my phone ... if you get pdanet+ you can tether for free and use the unlimited data on sprint... its how ive been suriving the solitude in the truck
 
Scheduled to have fiber installed tomorrow, can't wait!
 
Cameron Communications, a local company. Not sure who's backbone they are using.
