So this weekend the left control key on my Logitech G710+ decided to take a crap. Its just the cap, which cracked. No biggie, just get a replacement key from Logitech.

"I regret to inform you that we do not have replacement keys for the keyboard. What we can offer you is a replacement for the whole keyboard instead."

Great....so I can't replace the key, no no. I have to mail in my keyboard and have the whole thing replaced.
They also want a copy of my receipt from microcenter...which i don't have. Hopefully microcenter has it on file.

So I think I am done with logitech keybaords. I love the keyboard itself, but if I can't rely on replacement keys to be available I can't stick with them. I own two of these keyboards, one at home and one at work. I like having the same setup and not having to switch. I think once I find replacements, I will just sell both of them on ebay.

Does anyone have Mechanical Keyboards that they would recommend? The G710+ has Cherry Browns, which I really like - but I am open to other switches as well.

I bought a $4 defender because it had an audio wheel on it... i still rape you people on all games and the only bitch thing that has happened is that pancake jam has clogged up the backspace button so i don't get into arguments in-game.

What the hell is pancake jam and why is it in your keyboard? Next thing you will be saying is your butt butter is making the keys slippery.

You put syrup on your pancakes, we put jam.(you know, the semi-solid sweet stuff)

Sounds like cum to me. Call it whatever fancy pants name you want, it's the same thing.

1. Stop "typing" one handed
2. Keep your receipts either in a digital file or hard copy.
3. Always have a backup keyboard.

it's the same thing.

I am using a GX Manticore.
Had been using some wireless Logitech keyboard, dont get me wrong, it was a decent board, but I enjoy having extra gaming buttons for hotkeys. Whether it be for gaming or settings/controls.
also, yea have a backup! you could always take your keyboard apart, blast some duster on that key, or swap the rubber nipple thingy from R.ctrl to L.ctrl??

Good point. I could just switch the control keys. They are identical, and I never use my right control key.
Good tip!

Swiped this from google, basicly the same issue I had:

Or you could just get a mechanical keyboard and have extra keys to begin with and just remove the keys if something like this happens, clean them off, and put them back in place on the keyboard.

I only use mechanical keyboards for a variety of reasons, but this is certainly one of them. If I ever have a problem I just pop off the key or keys, clean them or replace them and I'm done.

BTW, mechanical keyboards are very handy if you type one handed frequently.

Yup, the G710+ is a mechanical with Cherry Brown MX switches. The control key happens to be a wierd size and wsad and other sites don't seem to carry spares of it.

keyboards are easy remedies.....doesnt have to be pretty(unless your into aesthetics...which in that case just buy a new one). just has to fit, be fluid and actually stroke the key it is assigned to!

That's fucked up. When I get a mechanical I look for and expect that they have keys for sale....bummer.

Yeah, I spend a bit more for the mechanical because most of my job involves tons of typing. I enjoy typing on these keyboards extensively. Hands never hurt or get tired.
