In the market for a new keyboard, after 7+ years my ctrl key has ceased living. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Get a mediastation keyboard, they're rather cheap , (the one with the audio scroller), thank me later.

Get whatever CarpTarts is using. He beats the shit out of his (or it sounds like it on TS) and it's still working.

Pretty much all the guys will recommend some form of mechanical unless your on a severe budget.

Personally I like my Razer Nostromo (Formerly the Belkin N52):

If your gonna go cheap rubber dome keyboard then I would consider that. I am surprised Razer did not produce a mechanical design when they bought the rights.

I really like my Roccat Isku -- only negative is that is is not mechanical, but my wife works in our home office at night from time to time and the mechanical annoyed her. My one warning: a Razer mechanical gave both me and sixer tendinitis.

Chuck, is it decent? Ive been thinking back and forth about a mechanical, but the noise issue is a big thing. I have room mates that live upstairs and they sleep while im awake.

i was actually looking at the logitech, i have a mouse from logitech and its awesome

You can get quiet mechanical keyboards. And hell yeah they are more than good. I won't ever anything but a mechanical keyboard. The Blacks are quiet but if you're looking for a silent mechanical keyboard you'll need to use O rings (pull off each individual key and add an o ring, replace the key and you're done.) It also depends on how you type. I hammer the keys so even on a regular keyboard I am considered a noisy typer. On Mechanical keyboards the Cherry brown I have does not annoy the wife who uses her office right next to mine, but she can hear it when I'm typing a lot because I am a noisy typer (she could also hear me type before on a regular keyboard). What can I say I love to hammer the keyboard.

Anyway, get a mechanical keyboard with Cherry black switches and you're good unless you're already a noisy typer and even then you can be completely silent or near enough by adding o rings.

A word of warning though, mechanical keyboards are not cheap. They are very much well worth the money but if you're looking for a $30.00 board forget the mechanical ones. They'll run an average of $120.

I like this one here but I also like the LED back lights: Amazon.com: Mionix Zibal 60 Mechanical Keyboard: Electronics

If you want a great non LED keyboard get a DAS. If you want another Great brand of LED keyboard try the DECK ones.

haha thanks sixer, i wouldnt consider myself much of a noisy typer, and im def not looking to cheap out @ $30. def look into the sites.

Mionix makes great stuff. I've got a Razer Arctosa (Keyboard, cheap cuz I ran out of money lol) and Mionix Naos 8200 Mouse.
For me it goes; Mionix > Razer > Logitec/Others (Namely cuz I havent heard about other companies).

I went with a DeathStalker. I originally went with a BlackWidow, which was very comfortable and had a ton of cool features. But trying to type on that thing... it's like I had to learn how to type again. The keys were raised up pretty high, and placement of the keys was off (by design). Just make sure you're board is a good fit for your style. And unless you need a ton of extra features that you'll probably never use, the brand shouldn't matter too much (unless it's Dynex). Between Razer and Logitech - there are plenty of options and price points that you can choose from without mortgaging your house.

Lol rim, yeah hopefully i wont have to re-mortgage for a new one, that deathstalker is nice, a little out my price rnage though, the one sixer posted is nice.
