You may not be the kind of person who gets his kicks by standing at the end of a runway and firing a small laser into the cockpit of jets during their takeoffs and landings?but plenty of other people are. In 2005, the FBI only heard about 283 such incidents; this year, it expects to record 3,700.

Damn, why such an increase? Isn't screwing with an airliner like that a federal offense? At the very least I'd say its a felony.

what a bunch of fuck tards, who would think thatd be a wicked cool idea..?

Whats awesome is the likely hood of actually succeeding without firmly attaching a scope to the damn thing to aim. Hold a laser at the end of a run way, as close as you can get without entering the airport. Now the challenge is to even hit the fucking window at all. Good luck with that if you make that your million dollar challenge is to hit the guy in the eye free hand... I will have to take some time to read incident reports but planes do spend enough time before take off for it to happen before they get rolling.

On take offs and landings the plane is slowing down and flying at a nice low level. The beam also spreads out on the handheld lasers over that distance, so it becomes more a laser-spotlight. Once that laser hits anywhere on the cockpit, it scatters the beam in all directions, so it doesnt have to hit directly in the eye.

What we need is an automated 30mm cannon that will lock on to any laser source and drop 10 rounds in a nice 5 meter radius.

The retardation levels required to attempt to blind a commercial aircraft pilot on landing approach aside, it's surprising that such a small laser is really that visible over such a long distance that it's actually a problem.

I mean, I'd assume you can hardly blind or maintain a focus on anyone over 100-200 ft. with a pocket laser, but maybe it actually can be done - especially at night.

Ah i see bot. Never been on the recieving end at a distance. I have put lasers down range that far and i have some time logged at the airport observatory shooting pictures. Can get about 30 feet from a landing aircraft.

Heatsurge the setup at BWI on landing you can see the pilots face with a 300mm lens on most airliners and its much closer than a take off. But shit like that Egyptian c130 u cant.

A high quality laser will hit from a good distance away......these people are retarded that do this in the first place. Endangering peoples lives, they should be tried as terrorist. I bet that will stop em.
