Levelcap discusses the CTE netcode adjustments

So.... basically they are saying "lets try and fix the game at the end of it and maybe people will still buy the next one"

Interesting video, perhaps there's some hope for improvements in the future.

The problem with the previous public testing is that they can only test server side patches. Testing client side and overall requires downloading patches that would have essentially prevented you from playing on normal servers. As it existed an important chunk of testing was likely only happening by the thousands of EA employees that usually have access to this in their spare time.

STO's test servers for example are always open but it doesn't require a 100% separate install. Any files that haven't changed are just mirrored. But the game was designed from the ground up to be patched in this manner. Battlefield never had a real need for this much testing so its why its new. That said STO despite anyone being able to test is also a horrible game with bugs dating back 3 years still unpatched.

Video notes:

The tickrate is set at 10hz, they are testing it at 30 now. WTF? How was this not IMMEDIATELY identified as the netcode problem?

Anyone can play on the test servers if they install a completely separate version of BF4, initially it was invite only because the decision was made by the same guy who decided on the 10hz tickrate.

It's only being tested on PC, no idea how upping the tickrate will affect console gamers.

LevelCap is still tongue bathing EA/DICE cock.

It looks like fixing the tickrate might actually fix a lot of the major problems like being shot behind walls and trading kills.

If this fixes the issue, then I'll join back up and start playing again. Otherwise its the old 'put up or shut up' deal with me...

I hope this fixes things. Has anyone done the download and updates he was talking about?

You can wish in one hand shit in the other; see which one fills up first. About the only time you will see a patch now is when some new content is ready to be released; tease you with a new game & issues being resolved.

So now the question is, what will happen when two players are using different tick rates?

tick rates are server side, at least for source games, not sure about bf tho

Both the client and server have very detailed control of packet flow in source games. The user can change settings so that the incoming data does not overwhelm their connection. They can also adjust outgoing data. The tickrate may be a constant but the effect it has is not fixed.
